When it comes to cleaning your house, every day can feel like a battle. Especially when you have to declutter before you can even start! It seems impossible to make a dent in the mess when it feels like there's just too much stuff.

If you don't declutter on a regular basis, it can be very easy for your house to get messy. This is because when you have too much stuff lying around, it's hard to know where to start when it comes time to clean. Not only that, but clutter also tends to attract dirt and dust, which can make your house – especially the kitchen – feel even dirtier.

The best way to combat this is to declutter on a regular basis, so that you can keep on top of the mess and make cleaning a breeze.

Here are my best decluttering tips for you.

1. Start with One Small Area at a Time

When you feel overwhelmed with decluttering, it's best to start with one small area at a time. This way, you won't feel so discouraged and you'll be able to focus on one task at a time. Plus, when you're done with that area, you can move on to the next one and feel like you've made some real progress.

Some people like to start with the area that's most cluttered, but others prefer to start with an area that's easier to declutter. There's no right or wrong way to do it, so just pick whichever method works best for you.

Once you've chosen your starting point, it's time to get to work!

Begin by going through all of your belongings and deciding what you want to keep and what you can get rid of.

It might help to make three piles:

  • one for things you want to keep
  • one for things you want to donate
  • one for things you want to throw away

If you're having trouble letting go of certain items, ask yourself if you really need them or if you just think you might need them in the future.

If you can't remember the last time you used something, chances are you don't need it and it's taking up valuable space in your home.

2. Don't Try to Do It All in One Day

Focussing on all the decluttering you have to do in one day can be very overwhelming and you might not be able to get everything done. Plus, it's a lot more manageable if you break it up into smaller tasks.

If you try to declutter your entire house in one day, you might end up feeling exhausted and discouraged.

However, if you focus on one area at a time, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment each time you finish an area.

Start by setting aside some time each week to declutter. Even just half an hour each week can make a big difference. If you find that you have more time, you can always declutter for longer periods of time. But don't feel like you have to do it all in one day.

Remember, the goal is to make decluttering a part of your regular routine so that it doesn't feel like such a daunting task.

3. Make Sure You Have Enough Storage Space for Everything

If you have a small space, like an apartment, you might not have a lot of storage space. This can make it difficult to declutter, because you might not have a place to put all of your belongings.

One way to combat this is to get rid of things that you don't need or use. If you haven't used something in six months, chances are you don't need it. This will free up some space so that you can put away the things you do use.

Another way to make more storage space is to use vertical storage. This means using shelves and hooks to store things instead of just putting them on the floor. This will help you maximize your space so that you can keep your belongings organized.

Finally, don't be afraid to get creative with your storage. There are a lot of different ways to store things, so don't be afraid to think outside the box. For more help, grab me free first apartment checklist.

4. Get Rid of Things You Don't Use or Need

This step will be the hardest because it can be difficult to let go of things. But it's important to get rid of things you don't use or need, because they're just taking up space in your home.

If you're having trouble getting rid of things, ask yourself if you really need them or if you just think you might need them in the future. If you can't remember the last time you used something, chances are you don't need it and it's taking up valuable space in your home.

Another way to let go of things is to donate them to charity. This way, you know that your belongings will be going to someone who needs them. And, it's a great way to declutter your home without having to throw everything away.

Once you've gone through all of your belongings, it's time to put everything away. This is where storage comes in. Make sure you have enough storage space for everything so that you can keep your home organized and clutter-free.

5. Use Labels to Help Keep Things Organized

If you have a lot of things, it can be difficult to keep them all organized. One way to combat this is to use labels. This way, you'll know exactly where everything is and you won't have to search for things when you need them.

You can find labels at any office supply store or online. You can also make your own labels by printing them out or using a label maker.

Once you have your labels, start by labeling the outside of each storage container. This way, you'll know what's inside without having to open it up. Then, label the inside of each drawer so that you can easily find what you're looking for.

Finally, don't forget to label the doors and windows in your home. This will help you keep track of where everything is and it will make it easier to find things when you're looking for them.

These are just a few tips to help you declutter your home. With a little bit of planning and effort, you can easily declutter your home and make it a more enjoyable place to live. Just remember to take it one step at a time and you'll be surprised at how easy it is to declutter your home. Thanks for reading!
