Did you know that 79 percent of full-time working mothers are in charge of house cleaning, such as washing the laundry? And moms are twice as likely as dads to cook?

It may seem like a daunting task, but it's important to take some time for yourself and get the job done. Cleaning motivation is often hard to come by, especially when you have a full-time job, little ones to take care of and a home to keep clean. I work from home and during the Pandemic my twins were during online school. So for two years all four of us (yes my husband also works from home with me) were in a home. The thought of cleaning was difficult. I would vacuum the high-traffic areas and not even when I put the vacuum away would there be a spill or trash being littered. The motivation to clean just wasn't there. I had to figure out a way to still clean and enjoy it – or at least tolerate it so that it's done on a daily basis.

If you're like me, then try out these eight cleaning motivation tricks that worked for me and can work for you too.

1. Use Cleaning Hacks to Speed Up the Process

There are so many cleaning hacks – especially on TikTok – out there that can save you time and energy.

Create a cleaning schedule using these simple cleaning hacks and set aside specific days or times for each task. For example, you could dedicate Mondays to doing the laundry, Tuesdays to cleaning the kitchen, and so on. Some easy hacks you can try is making your own 20-Second Soap Scrum, your own DIY cleaner with Fabuloso and using the TikTok mom to mop the floors.

2. Cleaning as a Form of Self-Care

Cleaning can actually be a form of self-care if you really think about it! It can be therapeutic to declutter your space and get rid of any unwanted items. And when your home is clean and tidy, it will be a reflection of your inner state. So take some time to care for yourself by cleaning your house – you'll feel better for it in the end.

Here are a few tips to help you clean your house as a form of self-care:

  • Start by decluttering your space and getting rid of any unwanted items
  • Invest in some quality cleaning supplies
  • Put on some upbeat music or your favorite podcast
  • Light a candle to relax as you clean
  • Enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when you're finished!

3. Make Cleaning More Manageable and Less Overwhelming

Cleaning can be overwhelming, especially if you have a lot of stuff or a big house. But there are some ways you can make it more manageable. First, start small and focus on one task at a time. For example, create zones in your home and stick with doing one zone a day. This will make it manageable and shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to accomplish.

Next, get your whole family participating in keeping the house clean. Give your kids a chore chart and create homes for things you use around the house like the remote control or toys in the living room.

Finally, before you leave a room pick up things and tidy the room. Doing this will help you keep a tidy home.

4. Break Cleaning Tasks Down into Smaller Chunks

One of the best ways to stay motivated when cleaning is to break the tasks down into smaller, manageable chunks. This will make it seem less daunting and more doable. For example, rather than trying to clean the entire house in one day, focus on one room at a time. Or instead of tackling all the laundry at once, do a load each day. By taking things one step at a time, you'll be able to get through the cleaning without feeling overwhelmed.

5. Put on Some Music While You Clean

Did you know that listening to music while you clean can actually make the time fly by? Studies have shown that music can help improve your mood and make tedious tasks feel less monotonous.

So put on your favorite tunes and get cleaning! I like to listen to upbeat music or podcasts when I'm cleaning – it really helps to motivate me.

6. Use a Timer to Stay on Track and Focussed

Any parent knows that keeping a clean house is a never-ending battle. It seems like as soon as you finish one round of cleaning, it's time to start all over again.

It can be hard to stay motivated, especially when there are so many other things vying for your attention.

One way to help yourself stay on track and focused when cleaning is to use a timer. Set a timer for a specific amount of time (15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.) and then work on cleaning until the timer goes off.

Once the timer goes off, take a break and then start again. This strategy can help you to break up the cleaning into manageable tasks and to make better use of your time. In addition, it can also help to increase your motivation by knowing that you only have to clean for a specific amount of time. So if you're struggling to stay motivated when it comes to cleaning, try using a timer to help you stay on track.

Conclusion

These are just a few tips to help you stay motivated when cleaning your house. By following these simple tips, you'll be able to clean your home in no time and without any stress!
