Our oral hygiene is very important for our overall health. Since some illnesses can stem from bad oral care. It's also unpleasant during social encounters for both parties when one person has bad breath. Bentonite clay is a very effective deep cleanser for the mouth. Making it a very good base for your own homemade toothpastes! Here are 3 of my diy bentonite clay recipes along with some information about the ingredients used in each toothpaste recipe.

Benefits of Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay is very beneficial for the teeth. Like charcoal, it polishes and whitens the teeth. Compared to charcoal, bentonite clay is gentle and does not damage the enamel in your teeth. In fact bentonite clay is rich in minerals which helps promote tooth enamel growth. It is unknown to what extent bentonite clay's minerals help benefit the teeth. Bentonite clay is also high absorbent and will naturally pull the toxins and other particles out of your mouth. Meaning, it will deeply clean your teeth. Another benefit of bentonite clay is that it's alkaline. Our mouth needs to keep a a balanced PH and bentonite clay's alkaline will help neutralize acidity from some of the foods that we eat.

Benefits of Aloe Vera

The outer latex of aloe vera gel is called anthraquinones which has the ability to kill the harmful micro-organisms in our mouth. Because of this compound, aloe vera gel is good at controlling the bacteria that causes cavities. Aloe vera gel is a lot gentler than bentonite clay and does not have the same deep cleaning benefits, but it is a good alternative for people with sensitive teeth.

Thyme Oil

Can eliminate bad odor from the mouth because it has antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The natural chemicals in thyme oil also help with oral infections like gingivitis.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil can control plaque, ease bleeding gums, and freshen breath. Although tea tree oil is great for killing bacteria and reduce tooth decay, do not ingest tea tree oil. It is safe to use in toothpaste and mouthwash as long as you spit it out afterwards!

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil helps strengthen teeth and gums. It's great for combating receding gums.

Oregano Oil

Oregano oil is an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that defends against both fungal and bacterial infections. The can help slow down both tooth decay and cavities.

Clove Oil

Cloves numb the mouth. So it can sooth tooth aches. Clove oil is also good for restricting further development of bacteria.

Cinnamon Oil

Cinnamon oil is a beneficial cleanser because it is antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-fungal.

Peppermint Oil

The cooling effects of peppermint, make it good for relieving tooth aches. Peppermint oil also helps fight common bacteria.
