Goodbye! Hello! That's exactly the essence of Ciao Ciao, the personal project I am currently (24-7) passionate about (read here: obsessed) about.

I told a mentor of mine the other day, “I was equating my own personal value to what I make, causing myself to fumble over small decisions”. Just sharing that with someone provided motivation for the shoes I am sharing with you today. Finding myself halted by effectively what was fear of myself allowed space for me to start.
Orange Handles and a Sandbag Strawberry
I was around four when I was introduced to an endless world of color and texture. My mother tells the story best. When she would go shopping at the local fabric store, she would place me in the cart and my mind would start to wonder. I would stretch out my arms as far as I could so I could feel the rows upon rows of textiles and trims, all organized by colors. Seeing endless possibilities and feeling the excitement was enchanting.

My name is Craig Spring. I am what you might call a free spirit. I do not like to follow the same path as others and have always sought to be my own person. My purpose is to help men express their individuality with custom-made innovative leather apparel that enables them to stand out from the pack. Individuality makes the world a more interesting, exciting, and fun place to live in. It encourages creativity, new ideas, solutions, and perspectives. It also leads to happiness.

Hi, I’m Katie and I’m a latch hooker. (There HAS to be a better name for that… but I haven’t come up with one yet.) Most people try latch hooking when they’re about 11, but I didn’t give it a go until I was 41. And I fell in LOVE! I’ve always been crafty, trying lots and lots of different projects all my life. But something about latch hook just made my heart sing. It was the perfect craft to bring comfort during the early, scary days of the pandemic. We were told to spend our time at home, and this was something that made me happy to do so. I first started with kits from the local craft store, then found vintage ones online, and eventually started designing my own. The tools are safe and simple (no sharp needles!) and the projects are easy to do from the couch. You just need gridded canvas, yarn, your latch hook tool (it’s like a safety version of Captain Hook’s hand) and Fiskars kids scissors! There’s nothing to injure you when you discover them later in the couch cushions. The repetitive motion of placing the yarn, and the project getting softer with each strand you add… it’s like creating a hug that smiles at you. Nothing other than hot chocolate (which is like drinking a hug!) calms me as much as latch hook.
Making a Hand-Stitched Wallet
My day starts at 6am when I open the door to my leather workshop. The musky smell of shoe polish hangs in the air. My shelves are bending from the weight of shoes waiting to be worked on. As I sip on my cup of coffee I look over all the jobs that need to be done and start to make a plan for the day. Today I started by making a new bespoke wallet for one of my private customers.

May 25th, 2021 I submitted a call for commissions on a page that connects SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) sellers with buyers. I immediately received a few interested messages. As per usual, some didn't pan out, some are still in the initial bargaining phase, and one has already given the down payment.

Hobbies often undulate throughout lifetimes. Almost everyone has a leftover supply or tool from some project or creative endeavor from years ago hiding in a corner somewhere. Sometimes we find these little reminders, reminisce on the past, and move on to pursue new adventures. Other times, we stumble upon these cleverly hidden notions and rediscover a passion for a craft we thought we had left behind.
The importance of sequins
I felt pretty useless when the pandemic started. Stuck in my tiny apartment; surrounded by sequined pants, more tulle than I could store, and extravagant outfits for my cat. I had a fabulous wardrobe (and cat) but I was broke, unemployed and had nothing to offer the world - which was crumbling all around me. What good is fashion in the face of such a crisis? I felt a bit like a nail that has been pushed-in; compressed by the heavy weight of a hammer with nowhere to go.

While many view it as an elderly pastime, crochet has seen a revival in the fashion industry over the last few years and has become the cornerstone of my heart. What started as an anxiety soothing activity, has now become a full-time business for me and I do not see that changing anytime soon. So, in these lines I will detail my love affair with needle and yarn, and present the project I feel represents the culmination of my 2 years of learning this craft.

From photography, to making clothes, to home decor, to making t-shirts, to doing hair, I love it all. Art of any form is something I've always loved since I was little.

Do you have a moment? I want to show you a photo. Admittedly it isn't a very awe-inspiring photo. It's not something you would use as, say, your phone’s wallpaper, or an Instagram post to boost your engagement.
