Most “make money online” advice sounds simple—until you actually try it.

I kept seeing the same promises everywhere: start with nothing, make money fast, escape the 9–5.
So I decided to test it for myself.

No budget.
No paid tools.
No shortcuts.

Just a real attempt to make money online starting from $0.

Here’s exactly what happened.

The Rules I Followed

To keep this honest, I set a few rules:

  • I couldn’t spend any money upfront

  • I had to use free platforms only

  • I had to give each method a real effort (not just try it for a day and quit)

The goal wasn’t to get rich—it was to find out what actually works when you’re starting from nothing.

What I Tried (And What Happened)

1. Surveys & “Easy Money” Apps

Let’s start with the obvious.

I signed up for a few survey sites and “get paid to” apps. These are always recommended as beginner-friendly.

What happened:

  • I spent hours answering questions

  • Got disqualified from a lot of surveys halfway through

  • Made a few dollars… very slowly

Reality:
You can make money—but it’s extremely low. This isn’t income. It’s pocket change.

2. Freelancing With No Experience

Next, I tried freelancing.

I created a profile offering simple services—basic writing, data entry, and anything I could reasonably do.

What happened:

  • It took time to get noticed

  • Most clients wanted experience or reviews

  • I had to price low at first

But eventually…

👉 I got a small job.

Then another.

Reality:
This works—but only if you’re patient. The hardest part is getting that first opportunity.

3. Posting Content (Articles & Short-Form Content)

This is where things got interesting.

I started creating content around topics people were already searching for:

  • Making money online

  • Avoiding scams

  • Real experiences (like this one)

I focused on being honest instead of trying to sound like an “expert.”

What happened:

  • At first, almost no traction

  • Then a few views

  • Then gradual growth

Reality:
Content compounds. It’s slow at the start—but it builds over time.

4. Affiliate Links (With $0 Investment)

I tested free affiliate programs and tried sharing links naturally within content.

What happened:

  • No instant results

  • But over time, clicks started coming in

Reality:
This only works if people trust your content. No trust = no clicks.

5. “Passive Income” Ideas

I tried a few common suggestions:

  • Uploading digital products

  • Creating simple guides

  • Listing things on platforms with built-in audiences

What happened:

  • Most didn’t make money right away

  • Some got zero traction

But one key thing stood out…

What Actually Worked

After trying all of this, here’s the truth:

👉 The only thing that consistently worked was combining content + trust.

Not shortcuts.
Not hacks.
Not “easy money” apps.

It came down to:

  • Sharing real experiences

  • Talking about what worked and what didn’t

  • Focusing on topics people are actively searching for

That’s what started getting attention.

And attention is what eventually turns into income.

The Biggest Mistake I Made

I wasted time looking for something “fast.”

The truth?

There’s no fast path when you’re starting from $0.

The faster you accept that, the sooner you start making real progress.

What I’d Do Differently (If I Started Over)

If I had to start again from zero, I would:

  1. Focus on one platform instead of trying everything

  2. Create useful, honest content consistently

  3. Build trust first, then think about making money

That’s it.

Simple—but not easy.

Final Thoughts

Can you make money online starting with $0?

Yes.

But not the way most people think.

It’s not about finding the “perfect method.”
It’s about sticking with something long enough for it to work.

Most people quit too early.

I almost did too.

If you’re thinking about trying this yourself, start simple:

Pick one thing.
Be consistent.
Tell the truth about your results.

That alone will put you ahead of most people.

And if nothing else…

At least now you know what actually works—and what doesn’t.
