How to Thrive as a Freelancer during COVID-19
Staying Motivated When Business Seems Dead
Sadly enough, COVID-19 has made many people sick. Not only are people experiencing Corona symptoms, but they are also losing money and becoming discouraged at business prospects. Although times are tough, you do not have to give up. You can survive and thrive during these uncertain times.
Here are some ways you can keep your Freelance business going during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Create Digital Products
If you have no clients at the present time, it would be good to create digital products. Once you have created the products, you can put them up on your website to sell. You would generate some income while you are pitching to new clients.
Digital products can be books, videos, graphics, Google Slides, and so much more. Tune in to your creative side. You might find that your abilities extend beyond your expectations.
Stay Available
While it is tempting to hide away, you need to make yourself available to new clients now more than ever. Businesses still need blog writers, graphic designers, and transcriptionists. Authors still need editors and illustrators.
Keep your website updated, and send those emails. If need be, contact former clients and ask if they need your services. You never know when you will make contact at just the precise time a potential client is ready for your services.
Advertise
Not all advertising is costly. Emails, social media posts, and word-of-mouth are free forms of advertising. Some radio podcasts have free advertising while others require payment. Radio advertising and newspaper ads usually require payment, but you can find what is budget friendly.
Take any and every opportunity to promote your business or services. Ask family and friends to help you get the word out about what you have to offer. The more you put yourself out there, the more likely you are to have new clients.
Expand Your Expertise
Consider using your extra time to find ways to build on your services. Professionals take professional development courses in their fields. Many free courses are available on Udemy and other platforms.
Observe other experts in your field. You just might learn from them. When professionals stop learning, they stop growing in their ever-changing fields. As a result, they become out of the loop, and, eventually, irrelevant.
Manage Your Time
It is understandable that you might feel tempted to binge watch Netflix, but staying on schedule as much as possible will keep you motivated to pursue clients. Managing your time will keep depression away, and time management will keep you available. Many freelancers go MIA during these times because they become discouraged. Stay with your routine and avoid wasting time as much as possible.
Spend time finding ways to improve your services. Catch up on unread emails. Send a few cold emails or make a few cold calls. Steps such as these will keep you in the game.
The Bottom Line: Never Give Up
No matter how hopeless your freelancing career seems, do not give up. Get up in the morning, and get dressed and ready for the day. Work as if you have lots of clients. You might only be performing maintenance tasks, but those can affect your services if let go.
Talk to other freelancers. You might find that you are not alone. If you need a day off, take one, but get back in the game quickly.
