How To Fix Google Sign In Error On Android 2023

Have you encountered the "There was a problem signing in to your account" error when opening the YouTube app on your Android device? If so, YouTube couldn't automatically sign you into the account. But why?

Google Sign In Error On Android In this article, we will examine the possible causes behind this error and discuss solutions to fix it, allowing you to log back in.

What causes the "There was a problem signing in to your account" error on YouTube?

There are several causes that can lead to the "There was a problem signing in to your account" error on YouTube. Some of the most likely are:

YouTube signed you out because you signed in to the app with the same account on another unknown device.

  • You haven't used YouTube on your phone in a long time.
  • The last time you used the YouTube app, you didn't close it properly.
  • Too many accounts are signed in to the YouTube app on your device.
  • You have been signed out of YouTube due to security issues.
  • Now that we know the causes, let's see how we can fix this error.

1 Do some preliminary checks

Before applying any major fixes, perform the following preliminary steps, as any of them could quickly resolve the issue:

Restart your phone and the YouTube app.

If you use any third-party clone app that allows you to run two YouTube apps simultaneously, you should temporarily close it and only keep the main YouTube app open.

Lack of storage space can lead to numerous synchronization issues and frustrating errors. So, free up space on your Android device if it's cluttered.

Although there is no set limit, using the same account to sign in to YouTube on too many devices can also cause this error. Therefore, you should sign out of your account on devices where you rarely use the app.

One of the easiest ways to fix most app problems is to force stop the app once. Therefore, force stopping YouTube can also fix this error. To do this, go to Settings > Apps and select YouTube. Here, tap on Force stop.

2. Manually sign in to your account once

Have you recently changed your account password, changed your account security settings, signed out of your account from all devices, or signed in to YouTube on an unknown device using the same account? If so, it's likely that YouTube has logged you out before and requires you to log in again.

Follow these steps to do so:

  • Tap the Sign In button in the bottom right corner of the error popup.
  • In subsequent windows, keep tapping Next until the account login page appears.
  • Enter your account login credentials on the account login page and tap Next.
  • Google sometimes throws an error message that says, "Something went wrong." If it appears, tap Next.
  • Enter your account password again and hopefully you will be able to log in.
  • Tapping the Next button after adding the email on the registration page
  • Re-enter password after error window appears

Signing into your account manually can fix this problem. If so, close the YouTube app and open it again. If you encounter the same error, apply the following fix.

3. Remove and re-add your Google account

A problem with your Google account can also cause this error. So, remove it from your device and add it again as it often helps to resolve minor issues. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  • Go to Accounts and backup.
  • Tap Manage accounts.
  • Locate the account that is giving you trouble and tap on it.
  • Tap Remove account and select Remove account on the confirmation window.
  • Once the account has been removed, go back to Manage accounts settings and tap Add account. Then follow the instructions on the screen to add the account again.
  • Touching the problematic account from the list of added accounts
  • Deletion of the problematic account by clicking the Delete Account button
  • Tapping on the Add Account button to add the account again

Having too many Google accounts added to your device can also cause unexpected problems. So you need to delete all other accounts except the one you want to use for all Google services.

After removing the additional Google accounts and adding your main account again, close the YouTube app and open it. If the error persists, then you need to apply the next solution.

4. Clear YouTube app cache and data

App cache and stored data interference can also cause YouTube to stop responding and show errors, especially if you haven't cleared them for a long time. So, clear the data and cache. Follow these steps to do so:

  • Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  • Go to Apps and select YouTube from the list of installed apps.
  • After that, tap on Storage.
  • Tap the Clear data and Clear cache options.
  • Go to apps option in settings app for android
  • Youtube selection from the list of installed applications
  • Go to Youtube storage settings
  • Clear Youtube Storage Settings Cache and Data
  • Check if the problem has been resolved. If it persists, try the next solution.

5. Use a different account

If you haven't been able to sign in despite all your efforts, there may be a problem with your Google account. So, use a different Google account to sign in to YouTube. If you don't already have one, you can create one by following our guide on how to create a new Google account on your Android device.

If you can successfully log in this time with a new account, then there is definitely a problem with your other account. Therefore, you should continue to use the new account for now. In the meantime, you can periodically test your other account to determine if the error still occurs there.

6. Nothing has worked so far? Try a temporary solution

If none of the fixes have worked, you might be able to fix this problem by using a workaround. When the error popup appears on your screen, just tap your screen several times until it disappears.

This workaround will only work if you are already signed in to YouTube and the error popup is preventing you from watching videos. It won't help you if you're not logged in yet.

Enjoy watching videos on YouTube

Having trouble logging into the YouTube app prevents us from watching videos from our favorite creators. Hopefully, by applying the fixes discussed above, you will not encounter the "There was a problem signing in to your account" error message again. If none of these fixes work, reinstalling the YouTube app should be your last resort.
