A Personal Account of Exploring the Mountains and Embracing the Outdoors

As someone who has lived in Quetta city for several years, I can attest to the unique and rewarding lifestyle that this city offers. Nestled in the western province of Balochistan, Quetta is a place that is rich in natural beauty, with its stunning mountain ranges and valleys. In this blog post, I'd like to share my personal account of life in Quetta city, with an emphasis on exploring the mountains, kayaking, swimming, playing football and athletics, living in the mountains, and camping.

Exploring the Mountains of Quetta

One of the things that first drew me to Quetta city was its stunning mountain ranges. The Chiltan, Takatu, and Zarghun Mountains surround the city, providing a stunning backdrop and a source of adventure and beauty for residents and visitors alike.

As someone who loves hiking and exploring, I was thrilled to have access to such incredible mountain ranges. I have hiked to the top of Chiltan Mountain several times, and each time, I am struck by the breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding valleys. The hike is challenging, but the sense of accomplishment and the beauty of the natural surroundings make it all worth it.

Kayaking and Swimming in Hanna Lake

Another favorite activity of mine in Quetta city is kayaking and swimming in Hanna Lake. The lake is located on the outskirts of the city, and is surrounded by mountains, offering a peaceful and serene environment for kayaking and swimming enthusiasts.

I remember my first time kayaking on Hanna Lake, feeling a sense of tranquility as I paddled along the calm waters, with the mountains looming in the distance. The lake is also a great place for swimming, with its clear waters and refreshing temperatures. During the hot summer months, I often head to Hanna Lake to cool off and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Playing Football and Athletics

Football is a popular sport in Quetta city, and as someone who enjoys playing and watching sports, I have found it to be a great way to connect with the local community. The city has many local teams and clubs participating in tournaments and leagues, and I have had the opportunity to play with and against some incredibly talented players.

In addition to football, Quetta city also has a number of athletic tracks and sports complexes where residents can train and compete in athletics events. I have enjoyed participating in local competitions, and have found the support and encouragement of the local community to be inspiring.

Living in the Mountains

Living in the mountains can be a unique and rewarding experience, and I have had the opportunity to experience this firsthand during my time in Quetta city. Many people in the city choose to live in the mountains, either in small villages or in their own homes, where they can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the natural surroundings.

I have had the chance to stay with local families in mountain villages, and have been struck by the warmth and hospitality of the people. Living in the mountains can be challenging, with limited access to amenities and services, but the sense of community and connection to nature make it all worth it.

Camping in Quetta City

Camping is a popular activity in Quetta city, and I have had some incredible experiences camping in the surrounding mountains. There are several campsites and parks in the area that offer a range of amenities, including tent rentals, BBQ facilities, and hiking trails.

One of my favorite camping experiences was at the Ziarat Juniper Forest, located about 2 hours from Quetta city. The forest is home to some of the oldest.

Hiking in the Chiltan Mountains

While I have hiked to the top of Chiltan Mountain several times, there are many other trails and routes to explore in the Chiltan Mountains. Some of my favorite hikes include the Chiltan Wild Life Park trail, which is home to several species of wild animals, including gazelles and foxes, and the Pir Ghaib waterfall trail, which takes you through a narrow gorge to a stunning waterfall.

The Chiltan Mountains also offer a great opportunity for rock climbing and bouldering. I have seen several local climbers tackle some of the challenging routes in the area, and have been inspired by their skills and determination.

Exploring the Hanaori Valley

The Hanaori Valley is located about 40 kilometers from Quetta city and is a stunning natural area that is perfect for exploring. The valley is home to several streams and waterfalls, and is surrounded by lush greenery and towering mountains.

One of my favorite activities in the Hanaori Valley is to go on a nature walk, taking in the stunning scenery and enjoying the peaceful environment. The area is also a great place for bird watching, with several species of birds, including hawks and eagles, soaring above the valley.

Attending Local Festivals and Events

Quetta city is home to several festivals and events throughout the year, which offer a great opportunity to connect with the local culture and community. One of the most popular festivals is the Balochistan Sports Festival, which takes place every year and features a range of sports competitions, including football, cricket, and athletics.

I have also attended several cultural festivals in the city, including the Balochistan Cultural Festival, which celebrates the unique traditions and heritage of the Balochistan region. The festival features music, dance, and food, and is a great opportunity to experience the local culture and connect with the community.

Embracing the Local Cuisine

The cuisine of Quetta city is diverse and delicious, with a range of traditional dishes that are unique to the region. Some of my favorite dishes include Sajji, which is a roasted lamb dish, and Balochi Pulao, which is a rice dish made with meat and spices.

I have also enjoyed exploring the local markets and street food stalls, where you can find a range of snacks and treats, including samosas, pakoras, and chaat. The local tea, known as "Kawa," is also a must-try, with its unique blend of spices and flavors.

In conclusion, life in Quetta city is a unique and rewarding experience, with its stunning mountain ranges, outdoor activities, and vibrant culture. From exploring the mountains and valleys to attending local festivals and embracing the local cuisine, there is always something new and exciting to discover in Quetta. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, the city is sure to leave a lasting impression and offer memories that will last a lifetime.
