Thailand travel notes
Let the journey happen and you have the sun that lights up the night. Every time you travel, you may go to a place several times with different people and for different reasons, but there will always be some key words in the memories you have that make your journey very different from others. I never like to mention a travel destination and always think "go there in a few years", because it always will be indefinite. After the outbreak of the epidemic, the lack of time for overseas travel made me realize that, fortunately, I moved with my heart before. Recently, I learned about the current situation in Chiang Mai from a local traveler I met before. The current situation is indeed worrying. Eighty percent of the stores in the ancient city have collapsed. The original 32,000 baht rented storefront is now 10,000 but still have no one rents. Many people in the tourism industry have lost their jobs to deliver food. This year, there are no paid sky lantern festivals and parades, and the markets are bleak and unpopular. Teresa Teng's song "When Will You Come Again" was sung in the past and today, it is really very different.

During December in the southern hemisphere, the sun comes down on earth as a mango. Upon landing at the Kilimanjaro Airport, my body remembers why it will never feel warm enough when abroad. I take a three-hour drive towards the country’s east to my hometown Korogwe. Nestled below the Usambara mountains in Tanzania, the town is wealthy with mangoes. In a village before, vendors line up on both sides of the highway. Next to them are buckets full of ripe mangoes. Right and left, the trees are full of ripened mangoes. Right and left, the buckets are full of mangoes. Each vendor hopes to make a good sell or get rid of the overflowing ripeness in their buckets for about two dollars. There are many mangoes, and those driving by are potential harvesters.

Have you ever chased after something you just couldn’t reach, like a dog chasing its own tail? Endless circles it’d go, round and round, until it eventually tired itself out. No matter how hard you tried, you were stuck at the feet of your owner, tied up.

It’s early in the morning, I hear some clanking. Like two wooden swords against each other. It goes on for about 5 minutes. I realise that these two swards are actually deer antlers. How crazy huh? two deer just battling it out near my tent. I didn’t see any of it because I had a tarp draped over my hammock.

When I was a little kid it was one of my biggest dreams to go to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. For me, being able to go to Universal Studios was would have been better than going to Disney World. I knew Universal Studios was themed with a lot of my favorite movie brands growing up like Terminator, Jurassic Park, The Mummy, The Fast and the Furious, Harry Potter and Men In Black were all there. I remember being five years old and watching the television commercials advertising Universal and thinking "Man, if I could go there it would be the best thing ever". Never did I ever imagine that my dream of wanting to go there would ever come true.

The Lovers and Friends music festival is one that has been several years in the making. Due to our period in quarentine the festival has been moved from its original location of Los Angeles back in 2020 to Las Vegas now in 2022. It went thru a cancellation as a result of Covid only to comback stronger than ever with two sold out days. Some of the headliners include; Ms. Lauren Hill, Usher, Ludacris, TLC, Nelly, Monica, Brandy, Too Short, Foxy Brown, SWV, Fat Joe and so many more.
