From Xtube to Onlyfans

Merlin's Evolution: Chapter 1

By Merlin MystiquePublished about a year ago 3 min read

As I write this post, I'm uploading content to my Onlyfans and Adult Content Sites. I am sitting in my living room, blazed from herbal remedies, and reminiscing on how I became interested in adult entertainment. I began to examine my sexuality and the adult entertainment industry from an elder millennial's standpoint.

I was a late 90s kid and cable television ruled the house. An aroused teenager with access to late-night HBO will stumble across some lessons about sex. Shows like "Real Sex" and "Taxi Cab Confessions" were educational tools beyond the scope of rural, Bible Belt, and Sex education by the PE Coach. My favorite episode was the one with Simzie and the Male Strippers and the Women's Stripper Pageant. Entice, a nice Ebony Goddess, became my favorite stripper. It was something about her charisma that allured me in. Simzie and her studs captivated me and I knew that I was queer and possibly trans.

Beyond exploring my sexuality, it also spurred an interest to become a stripper or a porn star. I knew that at that time my body didn't meet the societal constructs of manhood, but I worked and still produced content. I did basic content such as regular masturbation and other fetish play.

The sites that were around at this time were Cocodorm, Flavaworks, Chocolate Flava, Xtube, and a host of other blogs. Upon, stumbling on these sites, I would post anonymous videos and pictures of me pleasuring myself. I would post them on sexual forums such as Nude Africa and other sites. Later, I started posting on Xtube.

Xtube was ahead of its time. From 2006 until 2021 Xtube served as a host for most of my content pre-transition. I had considered early on becoming a webcam model to pay for college. Due to religion, I remained anonymous and did cam work privately. I started posting on Pornhub in 2015. I used various user names, due to religious roots and gender dysphoria. I later started my amateur career via Xtube. I started with the username with NakedBoi. I then went by The Nautical Star and SexyCocoaVers.

I've seen how the evolution of the internet has changed the landscape of sex work. Many of us remember the Craigslist days when entertainers could bag party hosts with simply an ad. A crackdown on Craigslist and Backpage ensued, due to concerns about human trafficking and, of course, illegal sex work.

Fast forward to the pandemic of 2020, and the platform Onlyfans became popular. I had an Onlyfans long before it became popular, but the pandemic, caused many to turn to sex work for survival. At this point, my new body, Merlin, had to break out and no longer be anonymous.

Onlyfans, Justforfans, and their alternatives allowed me to have more control of my career and to explore my sexuality more. Vanilla has never suited me well. I networked with other creators, I realized that there were other kinks and things that I needed to try and not be ashamed of. Why not share my journey and knowledge with others? Hell, somebody will buy my content. There's a niche for everyone nowadays.

Thankfully, attitudes toward sex, gender, and sexuality are changing. Education, understanding, and good old psychology have uncovered a wealth of knowledge. We must also thank social media for understanding the adult entertainment industry from a sex worker's perspective.

It isn't always sunshine and roses. There are times when I don't feel like creating or being sexual. I am approaching forty. At 37, I am concerned about ageism in the industry and transphobia. We have seen the horrible things that people tweet and post about sex workers of all backgrounds. However, in today's society the internet has won and will continue. Why? Because Sex Sells.
