If you plan to change a house, you need to make sure that these changes are safe. Some of the most common changes concern the creation of new openings, e.g. doors or windows. Before acting such work, it is essential that your stuff is esteemed to certify that the transformation is harmless. You need to check that the location of the building is suitable for changes before you can simply knock on the wall. If the structure is weakened sufficiently by modification, this can cause the supporting structure to collapse.

Lintels is an additional support structure that is located above the doors and windows. However, you must carry all heavy objects over the door or window. You can find the best materials on building supplies online.

Types of lintels

Although wood has been used in residential construction, heavier materials such as brick, concrete and stone can also be used, especially in commercial structures and private homes. Therefore, the use of stirred steel lintels has gradually become known. Lintels are divided into the following types according to their development factors:

Wooden Lintel

Wooden doors were mainly used in the earlier buildings. Today they have been replaced by several modern technologies, but they are used in hilly areas. The main disadvantages of wood are higher costs, poor durability and easy burning. You can buy this material on building supplies online.

If the length of the opening is longer, the opening can be provided by connecting several wood chips with screws. If it is a wider wall, it consists of two wooden parts that are kept at a certain distance using wooden packaging. Sometimes these strengths are reinforced by the provision of mild steel plates (so-called FL doors) at the top and bottom.

Stone Lintel

The thickness of this is the most important factor in their construction. This type of depth corresponds to a span of 10 cm / m with a minimum value of 15 cm. Their maximum operating distance is 2 meters. In a structure exposed to vibrations, it cracks due to its weak tensile properties.

Brick Lintel

This masonry is used to cross small openings (less than a meter) under light load. Masonry is usually made of bricks, which are usually placed at the ends and occasionally at the edges. The masonry is built on temporary wooden supports, which are referred to as turning pieces (i.e. used as a center). Bricks with frogs (i.e. recesses) are better for building doors because they are limited so that they have greater shear strength at the end joints (i.e. the door is stronger). Stones formed with frog stones are called jogging stones.

The following points regarding masonry should be given due consideration:

• Bricks should be hard, burn well, and have no defects such as blocks, cracks, defects, and sharp square edges.

• The depth of the brick changes with the size of the opening and the appearance of the masonry. It should normally be a multiple of the brick layer, usually 10 cm, 20 cm, etc.

• Cement mortar with a mixing ratio of 1: 3 should be used to glue frog stones.

• The weaker masonry cannot be used for heavy objects.

Reinforced brick

Use these tools when the load is heavy and the span is greater than 1 m. The depth of the reinforced brick should be a multiple of 10 cm or 15 cm or 10 cm. The arrangement of the bricks should be such that there is a gap of 2 to 3 cm between adjacent bricks and mild steel is used as the reinforcement material. 1: 3 cement mortar is used to fill the gap. Every third vertical connection is provided with a vertical bracket with a diameter of 6 mm. The bottom has steel bars with a diameter of 8 to 10 mm and the bottom is the main bar that is bent upwards.

Steel Lintel

These tools can be used when the superimposed load is heavy and the opening is large. This includes channel steel or steel beams. Steel beams can be embedded in concrete or coated with stone veneer to maintain the width of the wall. If several units are arranged next to each other, they are held in place by a pipe separator.

Reinforced concrete Lintel

Currently, the door made of reinforced concrete is widely used due to its strength, rigidity, fire resistance, economy and simple construction to span the openings of doors, windows, etc. in the structure. These apply to all loads and every span. The width corresponds to the width of the wall, and the depth depends on the length of the span and the size of the load.
