If you are struggling to get reads for your work, you may be wallowing in self-pity and anxiety. You begin to wonder if you are really good enough, and if you should just give it up all-together. So if you are wondering why you are not getting any reads, here is a list of reasons why nobody is reading your work. Plus I can tell you what you can do about it.

1) Nobody knows about it

If nobody knows about your amazing articles about how you got drunk in a penthouse in China, how are they meant to read it? You can't just hit publish and expect millions of readers to flock. You have to push your work out there, but not too much. Maybe make a post on your social media saying, "Hey! I just make a post. Please check it out."

2) You're tapping into the wrong audience

I have no interest in football, whatsoever. If you try to link me to an article about football, I am not going to read it. There are lots of groups where you can share your work, but if you're sharing something that has nothing to do with the subject of your group, don't be surprised if the read count is low. Say you're in a chess club and you've made a post about chess, the people in the chess club would be your ideal audience. Tap into your niches and you'll be on to a winner.

3) Technical errors

Technical errors can include anything from typos, spelling/grammar mistakes and also formatting errors. If the media you are posting is also poor quality, that's going to be a red flag as well.

4) You're only sharing works in Vocal groups

There are loads of great Vocal groups, but they can get saturated pretty quickly so you may only get a few reads in when you share your links there. I've had great experiance in all of them, but if you have something that's specific like for a band, it may also be worth sharing it there as well. Also if you've written about a local business, share it with the business owner. Don't just settle for Vocal groups. Go beyond, and cross-post on other sites as well.

5) You're not reading other people's work

The best way to make yourself known to other writers is to read other people's work that interests you. This may help you find out where you are going wrong and what you can do about it. Maybe you may find something so great, you wished you wrote it. Being a part of writing communities can help people get to know you and see if they like to read your work or not.

6) People can't find it

Making your work search engine friendly, is another nice way to get more people to read your work. It's easier said than done, and there's a lot of articles and courses to make your work more search-friendly. Look up SEO on YouTube or Google.

7) You're spamming links too much or not enough

This one is tricky. If you're spamming too much, people will ignore you, or worse you can get blocked. If you don't spam enough, you will get swamped out by the crowd.

8) Your title is boring

Titles are important. They should summarize your post, and make it enticing to read. I know people hate clickbait, but it works. Lists are always useful. If the titles are boring, then nobody is going to read them. I used to think titles didn't matter until I wrote over 500 posts on Vocal. I found out what worked and what didn't. Usually something short or snappy can do the trick. Have a look at the top stories picked by staff on your site. You'll notice there's a lot of personal life stories and clickbait in a lot of them.
