The Amish are known for their choice of avoiding technology: no electronic gadgets, no picture taking, and riding horse carriages instead of cars.

But a team of YouTuber dispelled this myth by embarking on an adventure to try immerse themselves in the life of Amish people for 2 days — meet Yes Theory.

How The 50-Hour Challenge Started:

The challenge began for the host, Eric and Tommy, to feel the disparity between New York City and the Amish Community — without the buildings and technology except a piece of camera to record the experience.

After asking random people for 2-hours-straight and facing countless rejections, they finally met a young man whose family is willing to participate in the challenge and adopt them for a short period.

What happened next would change their life forever.

“It’s not quite what you hear”

Right off the bat, Elam (the left person in the picture below) brings out a phone which raises the question of Amish people distaste with technology.

Elam (shown on the left) explaining that uses his phone frequently

Elam explained that it wasn’t the case at all, there are no rules set in stone on what-to-do and what-not-to-do.

The host asks, “Does anyone follow their own rules around it or is it like a set-in-stone thing of [what-to-do]

Elam replied, “It’s not set in stone. We’re pretty free here.”

Elam wasn’t allowed to drive his own car. But he can seat in the backseat of the car as long as a non-Amish person is the driver.

Asking Deep Amish Questions With Elam:

Eric and Tommy asked Elam some questions about his life

Question: “Would you describe yourself as a pretty happy guy?”

Answer: “For the most part, I really have a lot to be thankful for. I feel happy. I might not gonna always look that way,

-Emal smirks-

I have people telling me how I should live, and I’m like yeah, you could tell me all you want… it’s still my life”

Question: “You say you watch YouTube, what’s your favorite thing to watch in YouTube?

Answer: “A lot of stuff. Sports I love watching. Number one would be farming. I love watching that thing, big equipments”

Real-life Amish Reaction To The Video:

“My grandpa was a farmer and helped many Amish with their farms, buy seeds and other goods. When he passed, three men worked on his casket made of walnut. And they said it was because they appreciated him. They also catered the food for the funeral — just the kindest people. — Joe Kissinger”

“Here’s the deal about Amish: they literally do not bother anyone. They do not try to force their ideas on others. I respect that. — Henk Van de Goor”

“It’s funny how seeing the lives of the Amish makes YOU feel like you’re the one missing out. Technology really can take you away from human contact. — ExMachina70”
