Where Do You Find Peace in Your World?

Where do you find peace in your world?

A setting sun over the stones on a beach is the picture I chose for this article. Imagine you're sitting on this beach. Let your mind wander as you watch the water ebb and flow onto the sand.

Allow your mind and body to relax and tune into your surroundings.

Where do your thoughts go? What do you think about?

Does your mind immediately go to everything that is happening in the world right now? Or do you think about something else closer to home? Do you let your worries take over your mind?

Are your thoughts negative or positive?

When you pause and reflect, you can find something that many people ignore. What it means to be you - right now. The real you, without putting on a disguise to hide your true feelings.

YOU.

Think about the last time you went to your calm place. Imagine yourself there, and close your eyes.

What do you hear?

If you're inside, the voices around you should start to quieten down and vanish as you focus inwards.

If you're outside you might hear the breeze in the trees. Birdsong somewhere nearby, or insects flying around you in the heat. Tune in and listen for a spell.

How does it make you feel?

These are familiar noises that you tune out or ignore when you rush around doing whatever it is that you do.

You might be near the ocean and hear the gentle lapping of water tease the sand near your feet. A tinge of saltwater on your tongue. The smell of the ocean all around you.

Wherever you go will hold sounds that are special to you. You seek them in your calm place because you need to feel them in the midst of a chaotic world.

You need a break away from it all. To recharge your energy and nourish your senses to restore your mind and body.

When you stop and notice your surroundings, the world fades away a little, and you can embrace the moment you're in. It's important to take some time every now and then to focus inwards.

Feeling your heart beating in your chest as your breath fills and leaves your body in rhythm - like the ocean waves.

Sometimes it's in the silence that we hear the loudest things. Where your thoughts become inspiration for new ideas.

What do you hear in the silence?

I imagine a wildflower meadow. A bee is sitting on a beautiful plump red flower, but I cannot recall its name. I watch the stem dance every so gently in the breeze with the bee resting its delicate legs on a temporary petal floor. A moment of calm, shaded between layers away from the sun's rays. A creature and creation working together in harmony. One cannot survive without the other.

A perfect moment.

How often do you slow down to see the beauty in the world?

Human beings, animals, plants and the physical environment are all connected. If one part is hurting, it affects everything else in the world.

I see so much hurt in the world and around me. Pain and suffering is an epidemic we are living with. Individually, we can't change big things, but what we can do is start with ourselves.

Where is your inner peace? How can you use this peace to help those who need you?

Everything starts with you.
