Speaking about why she simply can't "go out and marry", Joselyn Dumas said:

JOSELYN DUMAS: Do you know why we don't 'go out and marry?' I spoke to a friend of mine, Anthony, and he said look, I'll never be with a born one. He was sitting right there and told me. And I said to myself, this is the reason why a lot of us single mothers are single with our children.

Because now his reason was "why would I come and look after or raise somebody else's child. That's not my bloodline. He doesn't have any trace of my DNA in him. Why am I going to now help someone's bloodline grow? What about mine?" Do you understand? And then I asked him, "what about adoption?" He said it's different, but no it's not. I mean if you ask me, it's not, because I have a child.

And people don't even care the reason why you have a child. Sometimes you meet a guy you're dating and get pregnant, are you going to have an abortion because you're not married? No. He doesn't want the child so are you going to have an abortion because of that? No. You can raise the child on your own. It takes a village, even if you can't or you don't have a job, it takes a village. So it's a sacrifice you've also made as a woman.

But the man sitting there, even society, the man's family is going to think no. And that is why. It's not because we single mothers want to be single.
