N igerian singer Joeboy is enjoying a lot of success these days. After his song "Sip (Alcohol)" went on to become a massive international hit, his name blew up astronomically and he has since been able to build up a global fanbase of people who love and adore his music all over the world. But just like most people who are successful today, it wasn't always rosy. Once upon a time, not too long ago, Joeboy was yet another up and coming artiste trying to push his music and find his way into stardom. Along that path, he met people who doubted him, friends who were hustling him but eventually stopped, and now during a new interview with Cool FM, the singer is talking about it all. Here's exactly what Joeboy had to say about these during his time on the show.

Joeboy on Cool FM

"You came out at a time whereby the new face of music in Nigeria, we were just coming in contact with that. And at that point, everybody was like throwing things out but you stood out. What do you think it was about you that made you stand out? "

That's the thing, I focused on myself. I made music that I felt comfortable with. And when I make music, I don't put like expectations. I'm not trying to sound like anything out there. As long as it feels good to me, I'm great.

"When you kicked off your journey, nobody ever thought you were going to get signed. How are your peers now? The guys who you started together with? Are they still making music?"

No, some have travelled. I don't think I have any friend from back then that is still making music right now.

"How does that make you feel? "

I don't know how to feel about that but personally, I would say I feel blessed. It might sound selfish but I feel blessed because in the middle of all of them, I didn't seem like that guy that was going to actually make it. There was one particular instance. That was in 2017, I went for a rehearsal for a show that was like for upcoming artistes. And so the other artiste's manager was like introduced and asked me now "what do you do?" I said, "I'm an artiste" and he started laughing. He looked at me from like up to down like you, you be artiste? I kid you not. And it's a funny story because when I was shooting the video for "All For You", his artiste was a vixen in the video. For real, and one thing that has always happened to me in life: like anybody that ever like stunted on me, we dey always see for front basically.

That is the thing about life and people really don't understand how true this is and how frequently it happens. Karma is real. It is very real. People that you meet on your way up the ladder, most times, una go still jam for front. That is why it's always good to just be kind to everybody because in this life, kindness pays and two, you just never know how tomorrow go be.
