I took this picture on July 12th 2020. This date may or may not have a special meaning to you, maybe it was your grandma’s birthday, or your own? Maybe it’s your wedding anniversary date or a sad day that you wish to forget…
To me, it will forever be the day I decided to jump all in.
Figuratively of course!
Let me explain…
If you try to get to know me, I will close my shell, put up my walls and walk away. I have been like this since primary school when I encountered the very first person who would betray me (but that’s another story).
I’ve always been very careful in life, especially when it comes to relationships. I can’t seem to open up to anyone. Even my best-friends have a hard time knowing what I think or what I feel. And yet, I met this guy… It’s almost always about a guy, isn’t it?
This guy makes me laugh, he makes me think, he makes me want to conquer the world. When we first started talking, I felt this weird connection, as if I had already met him in a past life, I could be myself and did not doubt his words. I immediately trusted him with my emotions and beliefs. I shared a part of me and when I realized it, it was too late to build the wall as high as I usually do. He was already a foot in.
I decided to slow down my pace and tried to be less intense, more casual. But I failed.
“Have you ever been to the Scarborough Bluffs?” I asked him on Sunday morning.
“Never, what is it?”
“I’ll show you”
And so, we found ourselves in the bus, riding down to the Bluffs.
We walked all the way to the lighthouse and sat on the rocks.
“Welcome to the Bluffs” I beamed.
“Did you bring your camera?” he asked… “You should take some pictures, it’s beautiful”.
*SNAP* this is my first shot!
“We should come back for a picnic or a barbecue” he said looking into my eyes, into my soul.
It was so simple. No big words, no declaration, just that… And I tried to avoid it, I tried to put it in a corner of my mind to analyze it later, but I couldn’t. My heart skipped a beat, my hands got sweaty, and my mind blurry. I knew I was hooked for good at that very moment.
I won’t say it, just yet, but he changed me for good. I want to open up to him, I want to be vocal about my feelings, my emotions, my thoughts. I’m all in. And this picture will forever remind me of the day I decided to go a long way with him.
It is now December 2nd 2020, and I still feel this way. Every moment we spend together is fantastic. The bond we have created since that instant is stronger every day. He is the person I want to wake up with, he is the person I want to dance with, cook with, travel with, marry, build a house, build a family with. It’s reassuring, in a very strange way, to be able to be so sure about someone for once in my life; but I am.
The best part is, he is too.
Of course, he would not be as “vocal” as I am being right now, but he truly believes in us, in me and in everything we can accomplish together. It’s just wonderful to have a day by day adventure with him, and just know that tomorrow will be as great, if not better.
Now that I think about it, we haven't gone back to the Bluffs after this...
Note for later: pick Scarborough Bluffs as my birthday walk destination!
I’m curious… What’s YOUR Bluffs story?
