I woke from a dream today. It was another one about you. I haven't thought about you in quite some time and now things are stirring again. I can still remember every time that I have ever seen you. I can almost remember every time that I have thought about you. The first time I saw you was outside of the pool area at the town center hotel. I immediately noticed your breathtaking beauty. Words could never describe it but I'll try. Yours is the kind that melts the heart and pulls the mind. Its creates a fear of knowing anything more about you as it would risk tainting its own perfection.
I saw how loved you were by the others that were standing around you. They were giving much attention and I thought that it was perhaps your birthday or another type of celebration to mark one of your accomplishments. I was an outsider to this celebratory gathering so I lingered not and it took some time to shed the effect of the spell you had unknowingly placed upon me.
The second time that I had seen you was from the sidewalk as I was strolling by on a wet September evening. You were on the other side of a window enjoying the company of a small group of friends. Sassy's Diner was the place. The black and white checkered flooring and candy red stripes along the walls were a subtle contrast to the black tables and chairs. The entire room was just an accessory of yours. You turned the place into a throne.
As I passed our eyes met for a moment. Longer than a moment really. We stayed connected long enough for you to finish an entire sentence while regarding me until the brick walls of the place crashed through. It took some time to shed the magic again.
The third time that I saw you was the last time. It was December twenty second and the year was two thousand and nine. It was at the local market where everything was decorated in the Christmas colors, even you. You passed by wearing a long red overcoat looking rich and pretty with a small line of red die in your jet black hair. I finally spoke to you saying 'hello' as we passed but I don't think you heard me.
I eventually moved away from the small town that accompanied you and it was several years that had gone by when I returned for a visit. I had never forgotten about you but being back in this town had refreshed many memories of this portion of my life and of course you were in there.
I drove by the hotel on my first day. It was the same as I had remembered it but it was no longer in use, overgrown with ivy and its windows were boarded up. later that day I visited the market and I didn't recognize any of the workers that I used to know so well. The name of the place had changed as well. On the second day I took a walk that led me down the road to the diner. The diner had been closed down for quite some time as it was full of dust and portions of the ceiling had collapsed. It was all a bit depressing.
That visit was long ago and my dream last night brought all of it back in a rush emotion that I am now sifting through. I this dream I had happened upon you again but this time it was in my current town which was hundreds of miles from yours. I took this as a sign and had to let you know how much I admired you. You were sitting with your mother on a wooden dock and hanging you feet into the water.
I was walking along a foot path when I noticed you and I couldn't believe my eyes. I passed a bush that bore red roses. I plucked one of the roses and carried it with me. I made it to the end of the dock and said, "This is for you."
You looked up at me and took the rose kindly and I could tell that you recognized me from our old town. We had a conversation that included my telling you of the powerful effect that you had on me. You reciprocated my affections and the recognition delighted me. Unfortunately as we talked further you learned that I was with another and so then grew a foul distaste for me. I would rather have been unknown to you.
When I awoke to the familiar void I decided to right this story in an effort to fill it with something. I know not where you are now or what you may be doing with your life but I am most assured that wherever you are there is someone regarding you in much the same way that I have. The poor tortured soul.
I have decided to write you a poem in the hopes to give some paint to the white walls where I keep you.
Hello, my love. Have a beautiful day. The sight of you whispers my worries away.
The sight of you leaving is nary as sweet as the nectar you brew in my veins.
Come hither at dawn, in the absence of night. My strength must be met in your effortless light.
I dance to your darkest melodies. I sing aloud in your empty halls.
I shall starve within your bounty. Untouched perfection, ever so slight.
The matron of eve, a naked pallet, filled with anticipation. I dare to steady its aim. A poison so sweet, not a one could refrain.
A seeker of sorrow, in fruitless delight. Untouched perfection, ever so slight.
