Two Parallels

opposites yet same

Creak! Jane opened the door to her new home for a couple of years. Switching from 224 square feet room for one person with a mesmerizing view of the beach to sharing 132 square feet between two people was all that she feared. To her disappointment, the dorm did not serve a nice and pleasing first impression. It was evident that the tiny space was to be shared by two people but still there was a single bed that was placed exactly in the middle of the dormitory seeming like the center of rotation of earth. Apart from the bed, a brown dusky cupboard, half closed with stuffed clothes pouring out from the edges, completely blocked the only window and source of ventilation to the dorm, making it suffocating in there. "No! No! This is unacceptable." Jane screamed at the back of her head when she saw posters of BTS with cliche and cringe stuff written all over them covering the walls of the dorm.

Before even meeting her roomate, Jane could see all the turn offs in her, from being messy to an obsessive army (fandom of BTS). "Breath in breath out", that's all Jane whispered to herself in order to calm her down. "She must've been in the process of unpacking", were the words that gave Jane the slightest and only ray of hope to her heart. But her brain completely fought over the stance of her heart by whispering questions like "what would you do about these posters?"

Only when the argument between her heart and brain was starting to heat up, a girl in her twenties, wearing a shirt with, "I am an army" written all over it and neon pants with blue bob cut, popped out infront of Jane and asked, "You must be my roommate. Aren't you?" Jane wanted to mention how those words felt with the sound of chewing gum and how her Misophonia was triggered but all that came out of her mouth was, "Yes!"

She took out the salivary chewing gum out of her mouth and stick it at the back of the door as if nobody's going to see it. "Hi! I'm Jennifer. Fortunately you're stuck with me for the next couple of years," said Jennifer enthusiastically. While Jane whispered with a shallow breathe, "more like unfortunately." Jennifer laid on her bumpy bed with her shoes on giving a top to bottom glance to Jane, silently judging Jane, a Blondie naive, trimmed and tedious girl wearing a pair of white leggings with a properly ironed checkered skirt paired with a white turtle neck and polished shoes as shiny as stars and as black as a black night.

"I appreciate the efforts that you've put in your styling, Miss prim and proper", said Jennifer. At this point, Jane wanted to run away from that dorm and felt it was impossible to survive with such a blunt and careless girl, for they were completely the opposite of each other just like fire and water, but she managed to stay calm and decided that she'd compromise. "My name's Jane. First things first, I have an equal share in this room so apparently I wouldn't like these posters to be on my side of the bed. Secondly, the cupboard can no longer stay like that it needs to be shifted somewhere else so that there's ventilation in the room." That's how Jane started giving Jennifer the instructions with a bossy attitude. Meanwhile, Jennifer ignored her as if she was invisible to her, focusing on something more important than Jane. Jennifer looked at Jane with eyes wide opened and said in a low voice, "do not move. Just don't!" Jennifer picked up the hairbrush from the dressing table slowly and threw it towards Jane and there was a loud bang on the closed door of the dorm.
