There's one sure thing that can ruin a first date and a give off a bad first impression of you, and it's a crappy conversation. For starters you definitely need ice breakers, questions that provoke laughter, and thought, as well as questions that dig a bit deeper and go beyond the superficial of just keeping it cute and not being your genuine self.   7. What’s your favorite restaurant? This lets you dig deeper into their favorite cuisines, and overall sweet tooth or savory dishes that they delight in and how they feel about trying other cultural dishes.
  8. What are people often surprised to learn about you? You may surprise each other.
  9. Did you grow up with both parents? This will give you an insight into if their parents were together or separated or if they were raised by another caretaker (family member, foster parents etc). You'll gain a better sense of how they feel about relationships.
  10. What is your favorite go-to quote or saying? They may have a saying or affirmation that they live by.
  11. What is the most spontaneous thing you've done alone or with others?
  12. What did you do last summer? You get to see if they like to explore or if they're a homebody.
  13. What music artist do you never get tired of? You get to learn each other's favorite musical genre.
  14. What household chore is just the worst? See if they like cleaning or if have no problem getting a housekeeper.
  15. If you were stranded on an island and could take three things with you, what would they be? You get to see what they value the most and what's special to them.

In Depth/ Follow-up Questions

  1. What is your biggest pet peeve that annoys you? Asking about something that irks them will give you direct, clear insight into the things that drive them nuts.
  2. What are some accomplishments that you are really proud of? They may have not stopped to think about all they've done and plan to do.
  3. What were some of the turning points in your life? This allows you to see their true strengths.
  4. What would your perfect vacation look like? You may have share a destination that you can travel together.
  5. Who besides your parents taught you the most about life? This is great for getting to know who made an impact in their lives.
  6. If you opened a business, what type of business would you start? You get to see their creative minded side.
  7. If you knew you were going to die in a year, what would you change about your current lifestyle? Some questions require you to think, and maybe they haven't thought of this so it's good to get insight.
  8. If you could have the answer to any question, what question would it be?
  9. What is something that you would try at least once? You get to see if they are spontaneous or if you can both try it out.
  10. How much personal space do you need to be comfortable? It's good to know where the boundaries are so they're not crossed.
  11. What would be your dream job? You get to hear them talk about their dreams and aspirations.

  12. What’s the most essential part of a friendship? You get to learn their values.

  13. What skill or ability have you always wanted to learn? You may know how to do the skill they want to learn.
  14. What’s your favorite season and holiday? This can be a special bond created around the same holidays.
