2) Fed up with natural calamities, Surat farmer started design pearl farming, earning Rs 5 lakh per year from 5 lakes in 9 Acre land

Leaving expensive and traditional farming, Gujarat farmers are doing something unique. Diseases and natural disasters in traditional farming often lead to drought damage. Fed up with the sudden change of environment and continuous damage, the progressive farmer of Surat has started cultivating design pearls. Niravbhai Patel is cultivating pearls in 9 bighas of land by making 5 lakes. So they are earning about five lakh rupees annually from the sale of pearls.

Getting information from farmers and the internet

The cultivable land of Niravbhai Praveenbhai Patel of a farming family living at Athwalines, Surat is situated between Vadoli and Sahol village at the end of Olpad taluka. Father Pravinbhai Patel had been cultivating vegetables and sugarcane for years. But standing crops were destroyed due to the effects of natural calamities along with irrigation water. So as to incur heavy economic losses. But after graduating, Niravbhai became a progressive farmer and thought of farming separately. While studying, he noticed that a farmer by the name of Bhargavabhai Desai from Chikhli had been cultivating pearls, and since then he has been persuaded to cultivate pearls and started a new type of cultivation by getting all the information from the internet.

Invested two lakhs

Pearl farming can be a good option for those who want to make more profit with less investment. It requires an initial investment of Rs 2 lakh. After a year and a half when the pearls are ready. Then an average monthly income of Rs 1 lakh can also be made. Pearls are currently in great demand in the domestic and international markets. Depending on the quality, a pearl is sold in the market for Rs. 250 to Rs. 15,000. Pearl production can be started by growing 100 oysters in the pond. The market price of each oyster is 15 to 25 rupees. The cost of structure set-up for oyster cultivation is 10 to 12 thousand rupees. Water costs Rs.1000 and Rs.1000 is spent on other equipment.

Nirav Patel design makes palma pearls. The pearl is in great demand abroad along with other states including Rajasthan and Delhi. It produces and exports pearls in a variety of designs, including God, Alphabet, and Lucky Number. After being kept in the lake for 12 to 15 months, naturally produced pearls are sold in the market for up to Rs. 300

This is how oysters are prepared

As many oysters survive after being in the water for the first 10 days of antibiotics. It is thrown into the lake. These oysters are kept in a nylon bag and hung in a 1 meter deep water in the lake with the help of vass or pipe. At the same time, great care is taken to ensure that no oyster is left in this condition. Even though it hangs in the vase, it is not entirely watery. Meanwhile, organic manure must be added to the pond. This helps to maintain the oysters healthy and speeds up the process of pearl formation within the oysters. All of the oysters are removed after approximately a year and a half, and pearls are extracted.
