Their Love Is Real

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been to hell and back together, but their love for each other has never wavered. Here's a closer look at the fairytale romance of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and eight images that will have you believing that true love exists.

1. Royal Albert Hall

At first glance, this picture may seem like another run-of-the-mill shot of a happy couple, but the story behind it is absolutely devastating. In the Sussexes' bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan revealed that this image had been taken on the day she told her husband about the suicidal thoughts she had been having. Harry was grasping her hand in reassurance, as they were required to be at a Cirque du Soleil performance at the Royal Albert Hall that evening.

"And that picture, if you zoom in, what I see is how tightly his knuckles are gripped around mine," she said. "You can see the whites of our knuckles, because we are smiling and doing our job, but we're both just trying to hold on."

This image, which Meghan said still "haunts" her, is heartbreaking, but it showcases the couple's unity and steadfast dedication to one another. Harry has been nothing but supportive of his wife, always standing by her side through the ups and downs, and this photo is the perfect example.

2. The Rain Shot

This list simply wouldn't be complete without Getty Images photographer Samir Hussein's iconic picture of the Duke and Duchess walking through the rain, sheltered by an umbrella while cameras flash behind them. Captured at the Endeavor Fund Awards in the last week of the Sussexes' official royal duties, this image was perceived by many as the perfect representation of the couple's impending freedom and fresh start together.

3. Pregnancy Announcement

The proud parents-to-be were the picture of happiness in this February 2021 pregnancy announcement for daughter Lilibet. Meghan looks radiant, wrapped in her husband's protective arms as she holds the couple's then-one-year-old son Archie. You can feel the love that they share for each other and sense the peace they have found in their new California home.

4. Taking a Step Back

Determined to shield his wife and child from the abuse that was once inflicted on his mother, Harry made the difficult decision to step down as a senior member of the royal family in January of 2020. In a speech delivered to guests at a reception for his charity, Harry explained the reasoning behind this controversial decision and said that the couple had come to the conclusion that there was simply no other option.

This move was a selfless sacrifice that showed just how deep the love between the Duke and Duchess runs and how far the prince was willing to go to protect his family. He emphasized that Meghan shares the same values as he does and said that "she's the same woman I fell in love with.”

5. Wedding Day

Thousands of photos were taken of the newlyweds on the day of their highly publicized nuptials, but this is one of my favorites. With this image, taken from above the Sussexes' carriage, royals fans were given a glimpse of the happy couple's big day from the perspective of Harry's mother, Princess Diana, who we could just imagine looking down on her son and daughter-in-law with pride and joy.

Brb, I'm sobbing.

6. Interview with Oprah

When the Sussexes sat down for their tell-all interview with Oprah in March of 2021, they presented a united front, facing the cameras hand-in-hand and, when discussing more light-hearted subjects, smiling brightly at one another. Even through a screen, we could feel the warmth and unconditional love between them.

7. Outing with Archie

Just look at these happy parents! On a 2019 trip to South Africa to meet anti-apartheid activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Meghan positively glowed as she carried son Archie, her husband beaming with pride beside her.

8. Engagement Photos

The Sussexes' official engagement photos were stunning, beautifully capturing the love between a radiant young couple eager to begin their new life together as husband and wife. Taken prior to tabloid-driven drama that would come to mar the public's perception of their relationship, these pictures show a carefree Meghan and Harry with nothing but hope for the future.
