The Wickedness of Chance

A mystical tale on the perils of being hopelessly drawn to someone for all the wrong reasons. Someone who embodies all of your darkest desires, in the most beautiful of manners. A story even older than sin.

Her beguiling presence captured me instantly. Had I not turned back, things might have been different. Maybe they wouldn’t. Was it instinct or pure chance. So wrong, but so right. She was a blinding light. A shining beacon. Yet, the darkness that engulfed souls and caused ships to plunge to the murkiest of depths. From that first moment I was caught in her web.

Two parts human persuasion. One, pure mythical temptation. Sweet, beautiful Persephone. Queen of my underworld. She fanned the flames of my most wicked desires. Our passions burned hot like hellfire. She was the living personification of the beast lying dormant within. Her wickedness her perfection. A creature too divine to exist by chance.

Her devilish charm struck me with the force of a falling angel. Her sweet call, irresistible. I was no match for her. Yet she had found hers. Now I’m feeling tightly tied to this mast. Choked with fear, knowing these shackles won’t last. For the siren beckons with silent grace. Tearing the weak to shreds like violated maize. Homer’s Odyssey, a tale of chance redemption.

How I wished I’d heeded his lesson. Below the surface of morality, she won’t loosen her grip. Her sultry looks find a place deeper than any shipwreck. Barbed like hooks, they pull at me. Irresistible. So, I let go and sink into the fathoms of her splendour. A foolish victim of love, ravaged by her primal rapture. I hold my breath. Hoping for the chance to escape the currents of this carnal carnival.

Hopelessly blown around this vast open ocean. A lost madness fills our minds for eternity. Once a mystery, she’s now a part of me. We are one and now neither of us is, too. A symbiotic sadness. An insatiable hunger. A craving for destruction. We writhe with ecstasy. Moving with glee. Unstoppable. Hope never stood a chance.

This experimental piece was inspired by a chance meeting with a commanding woman with such beauty and strength, that it instantly resulted in a deep and uncontrollable passion. Her irresistible power over me could only be compared to something out of Greek mythology and the mystery of the oceans. Many a soul has been lost to the power and sheer scale of the sea, disappearing without a trace. Much like falling in love with the wrong person.

It should come as no surprise to you, that it did not end well for this lovestruck fool. Don't be lured in by the siren's call kids: Be strong, be true to yourself. Don't stray from your path.

Some info about me... (Should you be so curious as to exactly what type of depressive creative writer you're encountering).

Having not realised my passions until recently, I now spend as much time as I can playing with words in my spare time. From short stories, to experimenting with poetry, nothing in life makes me feel like I do when I put pen to paper. Whether it's the cathartic purging of my thoughts, or conjuring up abstract worlds, for me there's nothing like it.

Writing influences include: Magical realism, Charles Bukowski (minus the misogyny), John Wyndham, Arthur C Clarke, Sci-fi, love, sadness and dreams. I'm currently working on a longer story which incorporates all of the aforementioned in a post-apocalyptic dreamscape.

If I'm not writing, I can often be found manipulating words in a different way; freestyling with my closest friend. I find it fascinating how you can unlock the mind to release poetic sentiments from the subconscious, whilst delivering it around a rhythm in unique and exciting ways each time, in just fractions of a second. And then just as quickly it's gone again until the next thought.

Failing that you can find me in the great outdoors with my mutt Raphael and a refreshing gin-based beverage not too far from hand.
