The Ship of Faded Dreams

What if things would have been different?

They all boarded the ship with the hopes of a better life, although some were already more fortunate than the others. I sit and I ponder why this all happened in the first place. Was it because of the way certain people were being treated on the ship?

If you weren't of a certain status you were housed at the bottom of the ship in the poorest conditions. I believe this story should have caused many people to wake up but it hasn't.

There are still so many people that live just like the people on that ship that perished. I believe the ship was already set out to fail. If you can remember the story, the well-to-do people lived a glamorous life, ate well, sipped wine and champagne, partied, and lived the good life.

While I would assume the middle class lived an okay life, it wasn't as well as the well-to-dos but it was better than the lower class. The lower class was the lowest of the low, with men, women, and children being treated as lesser than others.

I believe that people are still living as if they are on the Titanic, and treating people that are less fortunate as such. I believe that was a warning, to treat other humans as you would like to be treated. Everyone wasn’t and still isn't born with a golden spoon in their mouths.

We are dealt the life that we are dealt, we didn't get to pick and choose who our parents would be and what family we were born into. And many people don't have the same drive to be successful. They were never taught how to save, how to invest, or how to prepare for a better life in the future.

I guess you could say that my story's perspective is coming from the people at the bottom of the ship. I can relate to them feeling lesser than others, being treated with disrespect, and being judged by what class of people that they fell into. And no it's not a black or white thing, it's a people thing.

Why do certain people think that they are better than the next person? That s my question. To this day in the year 2022, you still have people that struggle with being accepted, appreciated, treated fairly, and given the same opportunities as people of a different class or nationality.

I wonder if things would have turned out differently if everyone on that ship would have been treated fairly and with the same respect. I’m a firm believer in treating people fair regardless of their race, class, income, sex, religion, or anything else for that matter.

We are all people and we all have feelings, we all have dreams and aspirations. We all want to be treated with respect, and I believe things happen to the just and the unjust. Can you imagine how many women, children, and men perished because they were considered lower-class people? How many upper-class people perished compared to the lower class?

I have watched the movie several times and I am saddened every time although I’ve already watched it before. How can a human being treat another human being with such distaste? And still to this very day some people still have that same mentality.

If I were to write a Titanic movie it would go a little differently. Each class of people would take turns loading the life rafts because every human deserves a fighting chance, no one is any better than the other. In the position that they were in you couldn't be saved by money.

You could have all the money in the world but how can your money stop you from drowning? You couldn't be saved by your status, death is all of our final destinations. We all have a birth date and we all have a death date, and nothing can change that.

So tell me how one person is better than the next? It’s sickening and unfortunate that we don’t help our fellow man. Unfortunately, we miss so many opportunities to have wonderful friendships but the person is the wrong color or in the wrong class of people.

In conclusion, I challenge every person that will read my story to change your thinking when it comes to the people who are less fortunate than you are. I challenge you to treat people with the same respect that you desire. Whether it’s a server at a restaurant or a cleaning person in a store.

Let’s be mindful of our actions and reactions, in my story, everyone was treated fairly and everyone made it to their destinations. The ship never struck an iceberg and they all lived happily ever after.

The End.
