The Reality of Heading into Nursing
Why I'm choosing a career that's known for being so exhausting.

Every time recently when I tell someone or anyone that I choose nursing as a career choice of mine, they would react in a way that will be confusing for some people it could be bad or good. Usually, the reactions would be amazement and relief and then some reactions would be "Oh my god that's so cool and awsome, but thank godness that is not me." Yes, everyone talks about how difficult and how hard it is to work in the nursing field. At some points, I do feel scared sometimes and I do doubt myself a little bit. But I keeping pushing ahead and keep on trying my hardest. It feels a little bit weird that I am going for something that people are running away from or saying that it is basically " a bad career". But, overall this is probably why it makes me choose it after all.
I chose to become a nurse not because I think nursing is an easy job or that it will be so calm and everything. But, I have always wanted to help people I always dreamed of becoming a hero you see nurse everyday saving people and trying their hardest and I feel like that is such a blessing in this world. To me, nursing is much an issue related to having a career where I will have an opportunity to accomplish things that really matter. I am not a person who can easily spend the entire day looking at a computer screen and not doing things from behind a desk. I am a very active person and I am the type not to panic amid chaos. I found it really amazing to see how the human body works and how to make a person feel better.
The most challenging thing I would say right now is the academic aspect. There are plently of times where I find myself picking up a book in the library and taking notes on the book or even at the Math Center in Valencia College. Seeing if I am capable of committing all the necessary information into memory. Sometimes it could be overwhelmed and everything I would feel like I would forget something important and try to shove it in my brain.
One thing I will say the issue of the nursing shortage is something else that comes to my mind mainly every time I think about doing this career. We are losing nurses basically every day because of this shortage and I feel like once we start losing nurses people's life would be in danger. However, at some point, I started thinking that if everybody leaves because it's challenging, it will mean that those who remain should be recognized even more. This is why I want to be one of these nurses that sit there and help other people I want to be the one who is able to hear his or her parient's needs.
There are times when I wonder, I will be good enough for this career and sometimes I would even think that some of my studying nights will involve many cups of coffee and I feel like there is going to be times where I am going to want to quit. But, I have to remember that I am choosing this path and this career for a reason and I could be out there saving many lifes and I have always dreamed about being a hero like I have said. I have come to ee that nursing is not only a profession, it is a role that allows me to contribute positively to the world by meeting the needs of people.
