Do you believe that you are meant to meet certain people in life?
Think about it.
You’re born and grow up with either your parents or caregivers.
The circumstances in which you grow up, shape your formative years.
It forms your personality and everything you value. It shapes your moral compass, your right or wrong, and where you fit into the world.
When you leave home for college, your personality is all set.
Or, is it?
Doesn't your life start when you leave home and stand on your own two feet?
Or, did you have everything figured out at age eighteen?
Nobody has everything figured out when they start out. It's impossible because you haven't lived yet.
I believe that life changes us as the years go by and different experiences teaches us more than anything else. That includes meeting new people and learning new skills.
I can honestly say that you can change.
If I could do it, so could you.
Hear me out…
You might start off as a dirtbag, growing up on the wrong side of the railway tracks, in the worst side of your city. Life has started badly and you’re on your third strike on a ride to jail.
You might have started in foster care and run off to try and fend for yourself?
You might have grown up in an affluent family with a terrible life behind closed doors due to trauma.
You might have had the best childhood ever, but you have no idea who you are.
Wherever life started for you, doesn’t have to define who you are.
Have you ever thought about the people that you meet?
Where were you when you met X and how did s/he change your life?
We all have that one person, or more depending on our situation.
I have several, but I will reveal two.
The first person that changed my life was my grandfather. He stood by me whenever he could when I was growing up. He shielded me sometimes from my parents without understanding why. He taught me that it’s okay to just be who you are and the right people will love you anyway.
The second person that changed my life was my math teacher. My mom said I sucked at math because “our family sucked at math.” My math teacher saw something in me and believed in me. She set me a challenge to catch up on some math topics to move into the top class.
I aced everything she gave me and got an A when I graduated from high school. After that, I believed in myself.
I believed that I could. Whatever it may be.
Sometimes, the people we meet don’t just come into your life to be your friend. Those people may enter into your life for a reason.
That person might teach you something important.
Think about your life, and the big choices you’ve made that put you where you are right now.
Who helped you along the way?
