Ladies night out

It was a stormy night. The wind was blowing, the lightning was flashing, and the thunder was booming. It was a lady’s night out but with the rain they were not too sure about going out to party, so they decided to stay in. Melissa was having a sleepover with the ladies, Liz, Dorothy, and Alison. They had just finished watching a lovely movie and having a delicious pasta takeout dinner. They were thinking of going out as it was supposed to be a lady’s night out, but the storm clouds rolled in and the temperature had dropped.

Melissa had an idea. She had a stash of yarn in her cupboard that she had bought in the hopes of one day knitting her own sweater line. She bought it a few months ago, enough to make a great number of sweaters. Melissa said with excitement “Hey! We can knit some stuff, maybe socks, or slippers or sweaters, what do you ladies think?” Liz looked up and said, “What a pleasant idea!” Alison said with excitement “We can even go into selling them if we make them right!” Dorothy said, “Okay sounds good, so how do we do this?” Melissa said, “I’ll go grab the yarn and supplies. I will teach you all how to knit! It will be fun!”

Melissa then ran to the storage cupboard where she had the yarn and supplies stored and opened the door with excitement. She turned on the cupboard light and looked inside. There they were, the yarn, the supplies, the possibilities! She lifted the basket and behind her was Liz who said, “I can help you carry out something!” Melissa smiled and said, “Thought you’d never ask!” Melissa picked up a large basket of yarn and handed it over to Liz. “Thank you kindly!” Liz said with excitement as she took the basket and turned to bring it out to the living room. Melissa double checked another large basket to make sure all the tools were there, then lifted it and brought it to the living room as well.

The ladies screamed with excitement as Melissa and Liz brought out the yarn and tools. “Okay let us rock and roll ladies! Or should I say, knit and fold!” said Melissa, “Here’s how we do this” Melissa got out the instructions and some sample pictures. Luckily, she had some books and pamphlets on knitting that the girls could reference.

Throughout the night they were able to knit slippers, socks, scarves, and mittens. It was around two o’clock in the morning. Liz looked up and said, “Hey ladies, what do you think about calling our line MALD? Representing the first letters of our names?” The ladies all looked at each other and nodded and agreed. Melissa said “Wow this is amazing, we’ve managed to knit a lot of stuff here. Is anyone feeling tired?” Alison let out a long yawn and said, “Yeah I’m about ready to crash.” Dorothy said, “Me too, I’m a little tired.”

They all gathered their things, Dorothy, Alison, and Liz rolled out their sleeping bags in the living room and placed their pillows. They all got ready for bed.

Three o’clock rolled around as the girls finished getting ready for bed. Melissa said, “Hey, there’s still some popcorn if anyone wants any.” “Sure, I’ll have some!” said Liz as she walked over to get some. She took a large handful and went back to her sleeping bag. “I’ll take some as well, I have the munchies!” said Dorothy as she skipped over the sleeping bags to get a handful of popcorn. “Alison? You still awake? Want some popcorn?” They all looked over at Alison, she was sound asleep and letting out some snores. “Oh Alison” Dorothy said “Always the first one to sleep…. and snore.” they all laughed and went to their sleeping bags. Dorothy curled up in her sleeping bag, she was the second to fall asleep.

Throughout the night as the thunder rolled, Dorothy was dreaming about the knitting. They were all at a fashion show and they had a table set up with their knitted mittens, hats, slippers, and socks displayed. They had many colors to display and many different sizes and types. All the ladies were there, and they were selling the items like hotcakes. Dorothy was dreaming that they became a million-dollar company.

Alison, between snoring, was dreaming that they were at the mall. They had their own boutique set up in the middle of the mall with their socks, mittens, scarves, and slippers neatly displayed for sale. Their boutique was themed with the blue and yellow colors and sparkles.

Liz was dreaming that they had models on a runway featuring their handmade sweaters and scarves.

Melissa was dreaming that they made a deal with a large franchise and that their clothing would be displayed in all the stores Canada wide.

The storm eased off and the ladies slowly awoke to the sun shining in the window. Dorothy sat up rubbing her eyes from the brightness. “Ladies” she said as the others sat up as well, “I had the most amazing dream about our line” Alison’s face lit up and she said “You know what? So did I!” Melissa said, “Me too girls!” and Liz said “I did too! Let us share our ideas!”

Melissa went to get the notebooks and they all wrote down their ideas. What turned out to be a failed lady’s night out to party, turned into a business idea and creation.
