Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the mountains, there lived a young girl named Li Mei. Li Mei was an orphan who lived with her grandfather, who was the village elder. Despite her circumstances, Li Mei was a cheerful and hardworking girl who always had a smile on her face.

One day, while Li Mei was on her way to collect firewood, she heard a faint cry coming from the nearby woods. She followed the sound and found a wounded crane lying on the ground. The crane had been shot by a hunter and was badly injured. Li Mei immediately took pity on the crane and decided to take care of it.

She brought the crane back to her grandfather's house and tended to its wounds. She nursed the crane back to health and watched as it slowly regained its strength. As the days passed, Li Mei grew closer to the crane and they became inseparable.

One day, as Li Mei was walking with the crane, they came across a group of travelers who were lost in the mountains. The travelers were tired and hungry, and they had lost their way. Li Mei took pity on them and invited them to her grandfather's house.

Her grandfather welcomed the travelers and offered them food and shelter. The travelers were grateful and thanked Li Mei and her grandfather for their hospitality. They stayed with Li Mei and her grandfather for a few days before they continued their journey.

Before they left, one of the travelers, an old man, called Li Mei aside and said, "You have a kind heart, Li Mei. You have helped us when we were lost and you have taken care of this wounded crane. Your kindness will not go unrewarded. Remember, when you are in need, the crane will come to your aid."

Li Mei was touched by the old man's words and thanked him for his kindness. She watched as the travelers left and then went back to her grandfather's house with the crane.

Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. Li Mei and the crane continued to live together, and they became even closer. The crane would follow Li Mei wherever she went, and it would even help her with her chores.

One day, while Li Mei was collecting firewood, she slipped and fell into a deep ravine. She was badly injured and couldn't move. The crane, who had been following her, saw what happened and flew back to the village to get help.

The crane flew into the village and landed in front of Li Mei's grandfather's house. It started to flap its wings and make loud noises to get the attention of the villagers. The villagers were surprised to see the crane and wondered what it was trying to tell them.

Li Mei's grandfather, who knew about the old man's prophecy, understood what was happening. He quickly followed the crane back to the ravine, where he found Li Mei lying at the bottom. He carefully lifted her out of the ravine and took her back to their house.

Li Mei was badly injured, but her grandfather did everything he could to take care of her. He tended to her wounds and gave her medicine, but it seemed like her condition was getting worse by the day. Li Mei's grandfather was worried and didn't know what to do.

That night, the crane flew into Li Mei's room and landed on her bed. It started to flap its wings and make a strange noise. Li Mei's grandfather, who was watching from the corner of the room, saw something strange happen. The crane started to transform into a beautiful young woman.

The young woman smiled at Li Mei's grandfather and said, "I am the crane that Li Mei helped when it was wounded. I have come to repay her kindness. I will take care of her and heal her wounds."
