The critics of farmer wants a wife don't understand farm life
Because apparently y'all don't understand

So I've watched every season of farmer wants a wife. To me it's a funnier and better option than the other dating shows. Then recently I started seeing the comments about the premise of the show. You could tell that the comments were not mean but just from a place of misunderstanding. So in this post I will try to explain the show and the lifestyle of farmers.
Before we get into the comments, I want to explain the show to those who may not know. There were several versions even here in the US. It started in the early 2000s with the UK version, then the early US version, then the current US version and lastly the other international versions. In the earlier vision of the American version, it was one farmer and it felt more like a game show. The international are more like the current American version it's more women per farmer but one farmer. In the current American version several women get to know one of 3 or 4 farmers on the farm. At the end the farmers basically pick a woman to be his girlfriend hoping to turn into more later.
Recently I've seen comments like "they don't want a wife, they want a farm hand so they should just hire one" or "it's so sexist that they won't let the woman have a career". What those comments say to me is that people don't understand how farm life works and that's ok. Also, people don't understand men are allowed to want a stay-at-home wife as long as it comes from a good place and not a controlling place.
The comment about the stay-at-home wife situations on the show comes from a few directions. I think people misunderstand the whole dynamic. Some people may think that all men have support women who have careers. Some others may think it's too outdated. Some in these categories may think all women should work outside of the home.
The desire to be a stay-at-home wife or the desire to have a stay-at-home wife is valid. I think people want women to have careers and that's great, but women should have a choice. There are men who want a stay-at-home type woman and that is ok as long as they're wanting it for the right reason. Women with careers don't have to be with the traditional guy and the traditional guy doesn't have to be with the career woman. It's not sexist, it's just not what you want or just don't agree with it. Farmers or farmer types are more traditional and want the lifestyle of the past.
The "just hire ranch hands" comments I think just comes from a misunderstanding how the farm life works. Some people may just not know. Farms usually hire some ranch hands but most of the time it's the family because the farmer is how the family survives. Ranch hands cost money and some of these family farms would rather put money elsewhere. What if the farm can't afford a ranch hand? Maybe they want to teach their wife for when the ranch hand is busy.
Both comments I think could also come from people who wouldn't want to do those things. Just because you wouldn't want to do those things doesn't mean other people wouldn't want to. Also like I said before I think people just don't understand these lifestyles.
I heard a quote once that said, "my truth is not a condemnation of yours." Which basically means we don't have to live the same but we should live and let live. Just because you want a career off the farm doesn't mean that everyone does and that has to be ok. Everyone has the right to their preferences and to live by them. If you don't live a certain life, you don't understand it so don't judge it.
