The Creator and The Void

Reflections at the Edge

The Creator stood at the edge of the world contemplating the void. The winds of change blew strongly from the east bringing a whiff of seaweed and salt that charged the nostrils with a rush of energy.

The void cleaved the world between the known and the unknown. The skies heaved and the seas surged, rising and falling with the assurance of the continuum. A streak of the last light formed a line of silver at the edge of the visible.

‘There is no world like the known world’, The Creator mused, ‘and equally there is no world like the unknown world. It is all inside me. I am the surface and the depth, the dark and the light, the physical embodiment of the spirit within. I Am.’

The gulls took to the skies and dove down into the seas in white flashes. A dance of energy and light against the darkness of the broody skies and the steely dark waters.

Again, a rush of energy filled The Creator. ‘As above so below, as within so without’. Hands held to the skies and feet firmly anchored to the ground, The Creator exalted in the moment of recognition. The union of human and spirit, body and mind, of earth and skies, seas and air and all things of energetic vibration, both seen and unseen, visible to the eye and revealed in stages to the mind.

'As with the eye, some details are not observed, they get pushed aside by focus. Focus that is charged with intention, preference, and urgency. What the eye sees is not always as it is’, thought The Creator. ‘What the mind thinks and believes is not always the truth. The mind can play tricks on us, how we view this world. It can leave gaps in our reflections of the past and create dreams for our future. The present is what is in the moment. The now. The lens is the key to experience.’

The skies heaved some more as did the seas. ‘Destination unknown’, The Creator thought. ‘The clouds may dissipate and be gone, or wreak havoc on the land and the masses in some distant land. The sea will surely fall upon the shore and yet where it goes, who knows. The sea is free to come and go as it pleases, to find all crevasses belonging to this land and to another. The winds of time traverse the atmosphere and wash through my being. Both the energy of the seas and the winds create change. Change on the physical earthly plane and change on the moods of the mind. I choose. I Am.’

‘The sea is home to aquatic life forms, as the skies are to winged messengers, and yet they live in some kind of unity’, The Creator thought as the gulls took yet another dive and rose triumphantly as others fell in obedience to the laws of gravitational pull and thermal airflow. Unity in harmony with all that is.

A vertical bolt of light split the present ensuing darkness and formed a great cross in the deepness of space and time. A faint blue edged the light. St. Elmo’s fire. A conduit between the heavens and the earthly realms below, between the Gods and humans whose fate was at their mercy.

In that split second, the brief image of a mast appeared on the horizon. The outline of a tall ship glowed for a couple of seconds, heralding the presence of the other.

The Creator wondered, 'Should I call it in or push it away? Hmmm. What would I be calling in or pushing away?' The question posed many other questions and scenarios. The quantum field of possibilities as boundless as the sea.

‘Breathe in, breathe out. The seas rise and fall, roll in roll out, clouds come and go, darkness falls and day breaks, life comes, life goes. Is this ship coming or going? Hmmm.’ The Creator ruminated on the possibilities. Too many to grasp in an instant. Fleeting as the were, jostling and competing for attention.

Images rolled like an endless movie reel that converged all at once and in one mind. A reel featuring ships carrying pirates in the storm ready to plunder the unsuspecting in their path, ghost ships carrying the souls of the dead glowing in the darkness, explorers seeking new lands, a cargo of gold hidden in the hulls, refugees looking for a safe haven, fishermen following the currents and the birds, stargazers following the star path through the void.

The Creator reflected on the associations that flooded the mind and brought volumes of stories into existence. ‘The choice is yours’, was The Creator’s final reflection. ‘Be careful what you wish for. I Am The Creator.’

This is the shortest story I have created yet. The story of The Creator. The Creator that lives in me and in You. The I Am of it all.
