The Whispers of the Sea and the Cave at Dusk
The first time I truly listened to the sea, it spoke in a language I couldn’t understand—but one I could feel. The waves didn’t just crash; they whispered, warned, and hummed secrets only the wind seemed to comprehend. The black-winged birds circling above weren’t just moving shadows against the dying light; they were messengers, calling out in eerie, rhythmic cries as if announcing something unseen. And then there was the cave—a dark, unblinking eye carved into the shore, watching in silence. I had sat on that sand countless times, but this evening felt different. The beach was familiar, yet suddenly, I wasn’t sure I belonged.

Where Have Those Days of Friendship Gone?
Where Have Those Days of Friendship Gone? Where have those days gone when friendship was not just a relationship but the very essence of life? Those days when sitting on the school steps, chatting endlessly, getting drenched in the rain, playfully splashing water at each other, and later hiding those wet clothes from our mothers out of fear but laughing uncontrollably – all of it feels so vividly etched in memory even today. Those were days of innocent friendship... a bond without selfishness, without expectations. Sharing lunch during recess, tasting each other’s favourite dishes, and finding immense joy in such simple acts – there was magic hidden in those little moments. If someone got a new pen, it was mandatory for everyone to use it before the school day ended. There was no room for jealousy or competition, only pure happiness in each other’s joys. Fights did happen, misunderstandings arose, but they never lasted long. A quarrel in the morning would turn into laughter by afternoon. The concept of 'not talking' would last for just a few hours because ego had no place in that friendship. We played pranks, teased each other, but even in those mischievous acts, there was affection. In those playful smiles and innocent tears, there was a bond of togetherness that words could never define. But today, everything has changed. Friends are still there, but the essence of friendship is lost. People are around, yet hearts have drifted apart. There are thousands of ‘friends’ on social media, but not a single true friend by the side. We have emojis to express laughter, but the genuine warmth behind those smiles is missing. Where did that friendship go, the one where there was always time for each other? Today, even with plenty of time, meetings are limited to online platforms. Feelings are confined to text messages, and instead of opening up to each other, people find solace in updating their ‘status.’ The digital age has certainly brought people closer virtually but has widened the emotional gap between them. Do you remember those moments when after a fight, we would walk away, turning our backs on each other, but before reaching the end of the street, we’d glance back... and the moment our eyes met, we would run back and hug each other tightly? Today, arguments still happen, but they are followed by prolonged silences, sometimes even permanent ones. Where have those days gone when there was no ‘I’ in relationships, only ‘we’? Where is that emotion which kept humanity alive? Even after achieving success and reaching the pinnacle of life, the void left by the absence of genuine friendship lingers painfully in the heart. Truly... where have those days of friendship gone? Perhaps, we are the ones who left them behind as we moved forward. It’s time to turn back and look for those lost days. It’s time to revisit those memories when a fight would start over a piece of chocolate, but the same chocolate, when shared, would make the friendship sweeter again. Let’s take a moment to call our old friends, go beyond the confines of social media and meet face-to-face, look into each other’s eyes, and have heart-to-heart conversations. Because friendship never grows old, it just waits silently in the corners of our hearts. Where have those days of friendship gone? They are still within us... waiting to be revived once more.

The Absence of Help
The Absence of Help By:Emily Ryherd Beginning My red watery eyes stare at the small flatscreen TV that’s secured onto the white wall, as a random episode of I-Carly begins playing. My body shivers slightly as goosebumps begin to form on my arms, and I find myself annoyed at how cold hospitals always seem to be. Out of the corner of my eye, I can vaguely make out the woman who's been assigned to watch me, who is sitting in an uncomfortable plastic chair and staring silently at the TV but every now and then I can see her take a brief look at me. The sudden eruption of a greatly distressed baby crying makes its way into my room, and I’ve been hearing this kind of thing off and on ever since I got here so at this point, I’m able to easily ignore it. My eyes blankly watch the show on the TV as the episode gets closer to its end, but on the inside, everything seems to be like it is falling apart. Hours ago, a social worker explained to me that there are no beds available in any of the surrounding psychiatric hospitals, so I find myself waiting in hopes that a bed becomes available soon. This is not the kind of thing I would have expected to hear, because you would think after trying to kill yourself, you would be able to get the help and treatment you need immediately. Instead, I find myself trapped in this depressing reality where I sit stuck with a stranger in a small ER room for hours on end, watching countless episodes of I-Carly while rounds of tears roll down my face, and feeling more alone than I have ever felt in a long time.

Lost for Words: How Language Decay is Making Us Dumber
The Disappearance of Thought Language is vanishing. Grammar erodes, words disappear, and with them, our ability to think critically. As tenses fade—subjunctive, past perfect, conditional—so does our perception of time. The rise of casual speech, the neglect of punctuation, and the rejection of complexity aren’t harmless trends. They signal a deeper crisis: the decline of thought itself.

The Voices of Comfort Women: Stories from the Past. Content Warning.
Even though the first women were coerced into sexual slavery for Imperial Japan almost a century ago, the specifics of their enslavement are still painful and contentious in Japan and the former occupied nations. There are few records of women's subjugation; an estimated 90% of "comfort women" did not survive the war, and there are very few survivors. Although military brothels had been a part of the Japanese military since 1932, they became much more widespread following the Rape of Nanking, one of the most notorious events in imperial Japan's campaign to conquer the Republic of China and a large portion of Asia.

Rediscovering Jesus: Beyond the Western Image
The image or depiction of Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, has always been a subject of curiosity. Where did this image come from? What is its origin, or rather, who is the person in this image? If he was a man who was born, raised, and lived here in the Middle East, why is he imagined by people all over the world as a white man with Western features? We always see him depicted in this way. Is this truly the accurate representation of Jesus, or does this image conceal a deception and a grand narrative?
