Today was our 7th anniversary. Dan had a surprise weekend planned for us. His mood had been super excited and bubbly, until today. He had a glow on his face but now it has faded. I tried to push the feeling away this morning when I rolled over in bed and he wasn’t there to greet me with a wide smile. I slipped into my favorite black dress as Dan walked into the room. I twirled in front of the mirror hoping to catch his eye.
“I put your favorite dress of mine on.” I said, glancing over my shoulder hoping to see his sexy smile. Instead, Dan’s eyes were glued to his phone then he quickly walked out of the room. I forced a smile as I ran a brush through my long black hair and applied some makeup. I twirled once more satisfied with my look when the doorbell rang.
“That's strange.” I thought walking slowly out the bedroom into the hallway. Dan’s low whispers echoed through the narrow hallway. I tiptoed to the end peaking around the corner. Dan was holding the door slightly open covering whomever was on the other side. Suddenly a women’s voice echoed through the entire house. A feeling of doom washed over my body. My chest tightened with each step I took getting closer to the door.
“Dan, who is at the door?” I asked with a shaky voice.
“It’s no one Taylor, just go back upstairs.” Dan said over his shoulder still hiding whomever was behind the door. Ignoring him, I yanked the door open.
“Who is this?" I whispered, knowing deep down what was going on. My stomach started to turn as I looked down to see her pregnant silhouette.
“I’m his girlfriend. He is going to stay with me now, he has no choice.” She said pointing to her very large stomach.
I glared over at Dan. His face was red with rage and confusion.
“She is a liar, Taylor. I have no idea what she is talking about. You are my girl.” He pleaded reaching for my hand. I gave him a dismissive shrug.
“No I am not! Look!” the women pulled her cell phone out and held it in front of my face. There Dan was, kissing this pregnant woman's stomach holding the baby's ultrasound. Tears burned in my eyes. Anger spread through my veins like a wild fire.
“Get out.” was said, through gritted teeth.
“Babe, please don’t do this. You know I love you Taylor.” Dan pleaded.
“GET OUT! GET OUT! NOW!!!” I started screaming and shoving Dan out of the door.
I slammed the door and stood back panting then collapsed to the floor in tears. A thousand questions ran through my head making me dizzy. I knew I couldn’t just sit here and cry these tears that he didn’t deserve. Sniffling, I took a deep breath in letting rage take control over me. Peaking out the window making sure they were both gone I headed up to the bedroom. Dan’s cologne lingered in the doorway forcing a memory to play in my head. My hands started to shake as I picked up his pillow off the bed and inhaled his scent.
“How could I have been so stupid!” I yelled, ripping the sheets off the bed.
I ran over to the window and opened it, and threw them out in the lawn. When I turned around my foot hit a half empty bottle of whiskey. I smiled with delight as I unscrewed the cap and took a long sip. The dark liquid burned in the back of my throat. This just fueled the rage that was pumping through my veins. Holding the bottle like it was my new best friend, I went to the closet. Dan’s clothes hung in perfect order like my life used to be. It felt like a slap in the face. I started pulling all his shirts and jeans off. The plastic hangers snapped as I threw them against the wall. Out the window they went.
As I ripped the last shirt down I heard a loud creak from underneath my feet. I glanced down and saw the carpet move half an inch.
“What the...” I said in disbelief. I knelt down and slid my hand across the carpet. I picked at the corne and pulled it back, revealing a small trap door locked with a small silver padlock. My chest tightened with more anger and anxiety. I quickly stood up and tore through all the dresser drawers like a mad woman desperate to find a key. This key was nowhere to be found this just added fuel to the fire. Screaming, I threw the whiskey bottle against the wall. It shattered into many small pieces hitting the floor. I ran out into the garage thinking there had to be something out there that I could use to open the lock. Glancing around the room, I spotted a small bolt cutter hanging up with Dans tools. I picked them up and ran back upstairs sliding into the closet like a baseball player does when he slides into homebase. A loud snap from the lock breaking, broke through the thoughts racing in my head. I tore the metal lock off and threw it across the room landing somewhere with a loud thump. Goosebumps raced over my body and my heart skipped a beat when I opened the door. Stacks upon stacks of Benjamin Franklins become visible.
“No freaking way!” I exclaimed picking the money up to make sure it was real. Under the money were several fake IDs with Dans face on each one with a different name. He had over ten different identities, making me question if Dan was even his real name. When I snatched up another handful of the cards I noticed a little black notebook under the money. Curiosity took over my hands as they dropped the cards and went straight for the notebook. I sat staring down at this notebook that cried for me to open it. My fingers started to shake as they slide the band off and open the book. Several photos slid out and onto may lap. As I flipped through the pictures the more disgusted I felt. Each photo contained a picture of Dan kissing or holding a different woman. There were over twenty photos. I felt as if I were going to throw up right there all over the money. I flipped through the pages in the book that had different womens names and the date they had met. I wasn’t the only woman he was playing. I shook my head in distrust and scooped up the photos and put them back into the book. I counted the stacks of money and couldn’t believe how much was there. 20,000 dollars, and I knew exactly what I was going to do with that money.
I ran around my room grabbing clothes, money and some other essentials and stuffed them in my small pink suitcase. Then went back to the garage and grabbed a gas can and matches. I went outside and over to the pile of Dan’s belongings and drenched it all with gasoline. I stepped back and pulled a month old cigarette pack out of my purse. Dan never liked me smoking which made the nicotine flow even sweeter through my body. Next, I pulled my phone and open the camera app and held it until my face came into view, then pressed record. I took a few big drags and blew the smoke at the camera. “Hey Dan, you know the saying, fool me once? Well, CHEAT on me once, shame on me,” I flipped the camera around and flicked the cigarette onto the pile. With a quick flash of orange, the pile ignited into flames. I stopped recording, waited for the fire to die down and then headed to the nearest airport.
I had gotten the quickest flight to Miami and boarded the plane. The only seat available was next to this beautiful blonde woman. I sat down next to her and inhaled a wonderful scent of white wine and roses. She looked as if she could be America’s next top model. I was embarrassed to even have her see me. I knew I was looking like a hot mess. The woman turned and smiled at me showing off her perfectly white teeth.
“Hi, my name is Alexis! What is yours?” she held her hand out for me. Her skin was so soft and glowed in the light.
“My name is Taylor. You look absolutely gorgeous. Are you heading for a photoshoot?” I joked.
Alexis blushed and shrugged, “Actually…” she said smiling.
“Oh no way, I am to, they wanted me to pose for the sad desperate woman who got cheated on.” I said with a slight laugh.
Alexis frowned. “Oh no! Are you serious?”
“The cheating part, yes, the model, girl look at me.” I said giggling.
“What happened, if you don’t mind me asking?”
As the plane took off, I explained what had happened a few hours ago.
“Girl, I have had so many guys cheat on me, but that tops it all. How does a man have so many different lives and keeps up with them in a little black book? That's messed up.” Alexis slammed the book shut and grabbed my hand.
“After we land, why don’t you go with me to my photo shoot and then we can grab some drinks. I know a great way to get even with this jerk.” Alexis’ eyes almost sparkled when I said yes.
After the plan touched down, I took my chances with Alexis, how could I not? She was so beautiful and I just had to get to know her more. We hit the hottest clubs in Miami, got totally wasted and before I knew it I was waking up tangled in her bed.
“Good morning.” Alexis says in a soothing tone.
I smile and cover my face with my hands.
“What is it?”
“I’ve…never…well…that was my first.” I stuttered.
Alexis laughed, “Could have fooled me girl! We did do something, you can totally erase it if you want. Please don't be upset.” Alexis rolled over and grabbed her phone and handed to me. There was a video waiting to play.
“I figured you could send it to your ex.” The grin on Alexis made me want to kiss her.
I grinned ear to ear as I watched and then send it to Dan.
Dan receives video from his ex Taylor
Taylor's red blotchy face fills his whole phone screen. Her mascara was running down her cheeks from crying and her hair was a mess. "Hey Dan, you know the saying, fool me once? Well, CHEAT on me once, shame on me."
Dan gasps as he watched his belongings go up in flames. A few seconds later Taylor appears again, this time someone is filming her, half naked in bed.
"But cheat on me two, three....four..." she holds up pictures of all the women and his IDs. "Shame on you." Taylor says in an evil tone.
A few moments later, the camera is put down and a beautiful young woman in lingerie climbs into bed beside Taylor and starts kissing her neck. Dan became hot with rage
"Now I understand why you choose women. They know how to kiss every, little, spot." Those were Taylor's last words before the giggling and both of them rolling around in the sheets. Dan exploded in rage and throws his phone across his room.
Revenge is ALWAYS a dish best served sweet.
