Spreading my fingers

Freedom the way a bird lifts their wings to soar higher. The sway of leaves and flowers in the breeze. We want the freedom of skipping and laughter of children. The swaying of parents as they calm their children. The meeting of other peoples and families as they celebrate life and their beliefs.

We all deserve the liberty to pursue our life dreams and our own happiness. Though there are borders, oceans, and seas between lands, that don’t mean we can’t have sympathy and understanding for other peoples. That does not mean that our wants and desires differ so greatly that freedoms and liberties should be jeopardized.

Being free should feel like when you stand on the beach. The way the tides touch your toes and it feels like it's pulling but you're grounded. It should feel like your dancing, even if it is badly. The freedom to lay down and relax, really relax, where it feels like you just sink into the bed with a deep sigh. We should be free to live, whether that means traveling, partying, working hard, or raising a family, or all of the above. Freedom means we have the right to choose.

Freedom means not having to worry that someone will take our liberties away. We deserve a world where we have justice and others that will stand when tyranny occurs. We know we have the power for change. If we all stand and offer support, who will knock us down? If tyranny against others can occur, what makes us think it can't happen to us. The cycle will continue if we can't break it.

Everyone deserves to feel the sunshine and the rain on their face. To feel the winds under their arms as if they have wings. We should experience all that life has to offer from highs to lows as it reminds us we are living.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best when spoke of the freedom to stand together and work together. "Free at last." Though I would argue some of us in these days have felt like maybe some of our freedoms have been infringed upon. Some of us still are discriminated for the color of our skin, education, and sex.

Wars over borders and precious resources. Life is a precious resource. All life has meaning from the creatures at the bottom of ocean to the creatures that fly high in the sky. These wars over lands and borders, what does it accomplish? When we die all of the things we wanted to collect mean nothing and provide nothing. What we do and the lives we touch will last to those that we helped. This life isn't about how we have everything. It is about what we do with the time we have.

No one should have to hide underground to stay safe. No one should wonder when the next bomb would drop. None of us should have to worry that our children will be discriminated against. Overthink situations and wonder if you armed your children with knowledge on how to conduct themselves around others because the world doesn’t care much about innocence anymore. What happens if they get pulled over? What if bombs are dropped? What if tanks and warfare sprouts from entitled and overzealous leaders that just want one more thing to possess.

Everyone should have the freedoms of having clean water, a roof, food, and not have the worries of the greed of others. That is freedom.. Life has become too much of a schedule and not what can be offered. Where is the freedom to discover? When was the last time we were curious like children? We lost that innocence of seeing the world with rose-colored glasses. A world free of corruption.

I want us all to be "Free at last." I believe together we can. Together we can help others and each other find a world full of freedom.
