Dear Diary,                                                    December 5, 2012

Today during band, I had the slightest feeling that someone

was staring holes into the back of my head. Sure enough,

Haydon Calivarie, the school player, was looking directly

At me. If it hadn’t been for the bell, I don’t think I ever

would have made it out of there alive. My best friend

Skyler came to my rescue. Thank Goodness!!

                                        Love always,

                                        Kimberlie Smith

The bell rang signaling that lunch was over. I hated being the center of attention, so, I ran to my locker, grabbed my math books, and headed to class. You see, I like to be early so that I don’t have to worry about the awkwardness. I was almost to the door when someone grabbed a hold of my wrist and spun me around.

Being the clumsy person I am, I stumbled. Suddenly Dylan’s arms were around my waist pulling me upright.

“Thanks, Dylan. Oh, and by the way, never sneak up on me like that again!” I said as I slapped him playfully on the chest.

“Sorry Shortcake, I just felt like it would be funny.” He stated before he started cackling.  He calls me shortcake because he is 6’1 and I am only 5’3. I glared at him before a smile broke out on my face.

“It wasn’t that funny. Quit laughing like a hyena and let’s get to class!” I whined as he clutched his stomach laughing at my pouty expression. I stomped away in frustration. I didn’t like it when Dylan and his friend’s Luke and Kayson made fun of my shortness or snuck up on me. It just wasn’t cool.

I tried to casually walk through to door to my math class, but I epically failed. My foot slipped out from under me and I face planted. I can now officially say that my first kiss was with the floor in my Algebra class. I hope no one saw me fall! I thought as i started collecting my things and standing up.

When I stood up, my cheeks flushed red. It was just my luck that Aleks was in the back of the room, his green eyes following my every move. I used my long strawberry blonde hair to hide my face. This was so embarrassing! I have liked Aleks for at least two years now but have never had the courage to tell him or even speak to him unless the teacher made us.

I didn’t know Kayson was behind me until he whispered in my ear, “Shortcake? You are going to have to get out of the way the bell just rang.”

I did not like how close he was to me. I immediately snapped out of my daze and hurried to my seat in the front of the class. Algebra is my easiest class. I zoned out the teacher and stared out the window.

It’s so beautiful outside. The birds are singing, the flowers are glowing in the sunlight, and the trees sway gracefully in the breeze.

“Ms. Smith, would you please pay attention! Just because you are an ‘A’ student does not give you the right to tune me out.” Mr. Andrews snapped.

“Sorry Mr. Andrews. It won’t happen again.” I said barely above a whisper.

**************

Today is the first day of my sophomore year. What should I wear? What will everyone think? I haven’t changed that much, have I? Are just a few of the thoughts that are running through my head right now.

I do have to admit though, I have lost a lot of weight since last year. I walk to my closet and pull out a plain black t-shirt, a braided brown belt, and purple high low skirt. I guess this  outfit will have to do.

After taking a short shower, I did my strawberry hair in a braided tiara with the rest down wavy. I’m not the type to wear a lot of makeup so I just put on a little lip gloss and sunburn colored blush.

I begin to make my way down the stairs. Pancakes. The smell of pancakes hits my nose and I start running down the stairs to the kitchen. My mom was up and making chocolate chip pancakes, my favorite!

“Hey mom, whatcha doin? Why are you making chocolate chip pancakes?” i asked curiously.

“Well, since it is your first day of school, I wanted to make sure you have a good breakfast before you leave.”She practically yelled over the sizzle and her headphones in her ears.

“Mom Skyler is going to be here in like 5 minutes, so I am about to leave,” I state as pull the earbud out. “I Love you and I will see you when I get home from school.” As I head to the door I realize I left my backpack in my room. “Dang it!” I run up the stairs and grab it.

As I am coming down the stairs my phone starts blasting “I Would” by One Direction. “Skyler, I am on my way out will you hold your horses!!”I say when I answer the phone.

“Don’t worry Kim, I have no horses to hold on to. NOW GET YOUR BUTT OUT HERE!!!” Skyler screamed through the phone before she hung up. One thing you should probably know about Skyler is that she is not the most patient person in the world.

I make my way outside to see that Dylan has taken my spot in the passenger side of Skyler’s red jaguar she got from her mom. I hop into the back seat buckle up. “Is everyone ready for the first day of our sophomore year??” I asked loudly They screamed “Yeah we are gonna rule the school!”

You see, normally I would drive myself and  Dylan to school because he lives right next door, but it is a tradition for Skyler to take us to school on the first day.

In about 5 short minutes we were pulling into the Ridgewood High parking lot. Skyler stepped out and i immediately fell in love with her outfit. We may not be the most popular girls in school, but we were definitely something. Walking inside, everyone was watching us.

I walked to my locker only to find out that Haydon’s locker was on the left and Wyatt, Haydon’s best friend, was on the right.

‘School had already started off just Great!’ I thought to myself. Now I am stuck between two of the most annoying people in the whole school all year!
