She never knew what she was missing...

She can't believe she actually did it.

Vee stared at the woman next to her, her eyes were now closed. I guess I wore her out haha, she thought to herself. The woman was so beautiful, her body so enticing.

Vee's high started wearing off and the reality of the acts she committed not even an hour ago started to sink in.

Fuck...

Vee sat at her kitchen table, silent. Her body was there, but her mind was somewhere else, racing, trying to grasp at any sensible thought. On her table were piles of bills. The red "PAST DUE" stamps glaring back at her, almost menacingly, laughing at her failure to do basic adult responsibilities. The only thing she could grasp was the bottle of wine in her hand, every so often lifting it to her lips to have the sweet liquid pour down her throat and further numb her racing thoughts.

She hadn't heard from her fiance, Leo, in months. Not a single call, text, visit, letter, nothing. The last text she got from him read, "I will talk to you later, I have to go. Be good :)". Be good? What did he mean by that? She responded with "Okay, love you," but she never received any response, despite the countless calls and texts she sent. That was two months ago.

They met at a bar. Classy, right? He knew just what to say from the moment he sat next to her. They talked all night, flirted a little, and left together to go back to her place. From there, their relationship blossomed.

He was so handsome. Blond, tall, and strong. She felt so protected in his presence.

Leo made good money, and he pledged to take care of everything financially at the start of their relationship. But, she wanted money of her own. So after much debate and compromise, she got a part time job waitressing, despite his wishes of wanting her to just relax at home. Before waitressing, she worked as a caregiver for the elderly who needed assistance. She hated that job, so hearing that she need not worry about bills anymore was enough encouragement to quit that job, despite the good money she made.

They were both in their mid-twenties. She lived in New York her whole life; his ambition led him to Wall Street. He took his chance there and it paid off, majorly. He had more money than he knew what to do with. She tried to ask about his childhood, like where he was from, but he would always change the subject. After a while, she didn't bother asking anymore, thinking that he didn't want to dwell on his past.

He only permitted her to work three days a week. She didn't see it at the start—love blinds you after all—but it was because he wanted her to be available when it was convenient for him. Plus, only working three days a week as a waitress didn't bring in enough money to pay her bills, which, as a result, made her further need him. It was all a part of his plan.

Her phone buzzed on the table, snapping her back to the present. She quickly picked it up, hoping it was Leo. Despite being ghosted for two months, she held on to the hope that she would hear from him again. But, once more, she was disappointed. It was an email, another notice that she could not pay.

She could not pick up any more hours at the diner, they already had too many servers there. She didn't have enough time to get a new job, they were evicting her next week.

It was getting late. Vee was already tired from the stress and the wine, so she decided to go to bed. I'll figure something out in the morning. She corked the bottleand placed it back in the fridge.

As she was walking to her bedroom, she felt as though she was being watched. She stood still for a second, it was then she heard faint clicking noises. She walked over to her living room window, quickly shutting the curtains, but not before catching a glimpse of someone walking away. The only thing she could make out was the shape of the person, clearly a man, and the hair color.

Was it... blue?

She shook her head at the thought. She must have been more drunk than she thought. She finally made her way to her bedroom, stripped down, crawled into bed, and hoped dreams would come to her soon.

Chapter One coming soon!
