Reasons Why Women Are NOT Ready to Start a Relationship
What you need to know to avoid being in an awkward situation.

When courting women, you need to learn to accept no as an answer.
It doesn't necessarily mean that they’re not interested in you. Most likely, they could be going through personal dilemmas — issues preventing them from starting a new relationship.
While women's rejection might be painful, it's not the end of everything. Don’t let your self-confidence suffer. Remind yourself: it’s not you, it’s her who has issues.
To help you get through this situation, here are seven reasons why women are not ready to commit.
They’ve had bad experiences.
It's possible they just got out of a bad relationship. This experience could be the reason that's preventing them from diving into a new romance.
They don't want to deal with:
- Jealousy
- Controlling and manipulative behavior
- Infidelity
- Abuse
They've been through them before, and don't want to experience them again. As a result, they close their hearts off to new suitors. Even if the guy shows promising potential to be a good match, they won’t give him a chance.
They’ve just come out of a relationship.
Regardless of whether they were dumped by their partners or if it was a mutual decision, they still need to nurse their broken hearts.
According to Dr. Jane Greer, a marriage and family therapist, it usually takes six weeks, three months, or even forever for women to move on. However, that still depends on how profound the relationship was, how invested they were, and how heartbroken they were.
Likewise, there's no exact time on how long women should move on and jump into a new relationship. However, they will need time to process their emotions and heal their hearts before they're able to start a new romance.
They’re in a super stressful time.
The stress a relationship gives can be too much for them, especially if they already have a lot on their plate.
Not all women have similar life experiences, they have different ways to deal with stress. Being bombarded with a lot of stressors doesn't give them time to prioritize new relationships.
Some of them have enough personal baggage to work through, leaving them with little to no time to entertain a romance with you. This is why you should be considerate when women turn you down. You don’t know what they’re going through.
Unless you’re willing to carry their baggage for them, you should respect their decision not to be romantically involved with you.
They’re still trying to discover who they are.
Some women don't want to be in a relationship unless they are holistically prepared for it. They can't stand the idea of their partners exerting all the effort while they're always on the receiving end. For them, it’s not fair.
They want to be their best selves before diving into a new relationship. To do that, they need to discover themselves first. They need to work on their sense of self-worth, self-esteem, and confidence. Otherwise, men will have a difficult time connecting with them as partners.
That’s why some women reject men’s romantic advancements. They’re not ready yet. There are still a lot of things about them they want to change and work on.

They have a commitment phobia.
The proper term for it is gamophobia. It's associated with people who fear getting too close to other people and forming lasting relationships with them. A person who has gamophobia tries to avoid commitments whenever they can. It's impossible for them to be in romantic relationships.
Dr. Binita Priyambada, a senior relationship consultant, states that women are more likely to develop a commitment phobia after experiencing past traumatic encounters. As a consequence, women who suffer from gamophobia are reluctant to commit to a relationship.
Sadly, there's no way to test the fear of commitment. Some women show some or none of the symptoms at all. However, one fact is certain, women with this phobia will often hesitate to use the term "love" to describe their relationships with their partners.
They’re not happy.
In 2019, recent statistics show that women's happiness has been declining for the past 30 years. Other studies have also found that they are twice as likely to suffer from depression compared to men.
Women can't fully function as romantic partners if they're unhappy with their lives. For them, there’s no point in being in a relationship if they’re unable to feel happiness from it.
At the same time, it's hard for men to deal with women who see relationships in black-and-white terms. It's neither ideal nor healthy.
Instead of pressuring women to be with you, give them time to focus on themselves and sort out their feelings. Let them find out what’s preventing them from being happy.
They like you but aren’t falling in love with you.
There's a difference between when women like you and when they're falling in love with you.
Simply being liked is not enough of a reason to be in a relationship with someone, you need to make them be in love with you, or at the very least, fall in love with you.
However, some women will not immediately be head over heels in love with you. To do that, you’ll have to show them consistent efforts in the form of romantic gestures.
At first, they might not want a relationship with you. But if you persevere in courting them, there’s a chance you’ll change their minds.
Women Follow Their Own Pace
How long does it take for women to fully commit in relationships?
This question is jump-packed with several variables and is subjective to every woman.
According to dating experts John and David Bennett,
“Women tend to assess feelings of love based on physical attraction along with other factors (including a potential partner’s personality), which means it may take longer for a woman to ‘warm up’ to a potential partner, and the person can grow on her over time.”

That being said, respecting women's individual pace towards having romantic attachment creates a win-win situation for both parties.
Ladies can take their time to prepare and improve themselves, while men can seek someone else who can surely reciprocate their efforts.
