Plan a Weekday Date

As far as date nights go, weekends are totally overrated. Yes, weekend dates do offer a couple big bonuses most people won't experience with weekday dates. When you go out on the weekends, you can stop thinking about work, you don't need to worry about making it back home, and you can sleep in the next morning.

But even though they lack such crucial characteristics, weekday dates bring their own special qualities to the table, and the key to enjoying a great date on any night of the week is to tap these special qualities, none of which will leave you hurting at work the next day.

Go out to eat.

Unless you've worked in a nice-ish restaurant before, one that (at the least) has daily specials, you probably don't know how deeply chefs hate working on the weekends.

It isn't just the fact that weekends are busier and more demanding on chefs than weekdays. It's the fact that weekend diners tend to be conservative.

The people who go out to eat on weekends tend to be going on dates or hanging out with their friends and just need something to do to "treat" themselves, and in the case of both dates and weekend "treats," that tends to mean ordering something extremely conventional and beyond boring to cook.

I'm telling you from firsthand experience, chefs are not excited or inspired to make your chicken Parmesan when it's the 135th plate of run-of-the-mill pasta they've cooked that night.

Which means the conventional dishes you order on weekends won't be at their best and the "specials" you order will cater to unadventurous eaters and lack the sort of creative flair chefs love to play around with when they get the opportunity.

And when chefs can let loose and come up with exciting and unique specials? On weekdays, which makes Tuesday-Thursday dining is a hidden gem to explore on weekday dates.

Attend a lecture, a screening or unique event.

Speaking of hidden gems, weekday nights are home to many exciting and unique events.

Lectures or talks, like those occurring at colleges or in larger bookstores, tend to take place on weekday nights and not on the weekends. These venues also tend to screen unique and interesting movies during the weekday.

Music spaces also house special acts during the week and rarely hog all their big names for the weekends. After all, touring bands want to play every night they can, and while they might prefer a Friday or Saturday gig, they're more than happy to hop in for a quick set during the week as they pass through town.

When it comes down to any type of individual, group or media event that tours, they will take on plenty of weekday engagements, giving you a unique shared experience for a random date night.

Set up a regular date night.

Maybe your favorite coffee shop has an open mic night every Monday you like to attend with your man. Maybe there are some TV shows you and your man like to watch together. Maybe you just like to know that every Tuesday you and your man will be able to spend some quality time together, regardless of what else is going on in your respective and joint social spheres.

A set weekday night makes a much better opportunity for guaranteed alone time with your man than a set weekend night, as weekends get quickly eaten up by other social obligations.

That means it almost doesn't matter what you and your man do during your weekday date, as long as the two of you are able to spend time together without any other distractions, free from the guilt you're letting your other friends down or missing something seemingly important.

With the right attitude, any weekday night can be a really special time for you and your man.
