Weddings!

A lot to dissect. Namely, two out of the five couples tied the knot. That's a success given the nature in which the couples meet, i.e., they don't before they get engaged!

Nick and Danielle had a rough start. Both of them clearly had strong feelings for each other right off the bat, but struggled with real life fights. Looking back, this couple worked on communication the most though. That could explain why they felt comfortable saying "I do." I learned that opposites can attract, but with the mutual understanding of each others' limits, boundaries, and sense of self. Nick portrayed a wonderful example of patience and understanding throughout their fights and Danielle always appropriately apologized and understood when to let something go.

Iyanna and Jarrette always had their differences but appeared genuinely in love during their wedding. I admired their willingness to also communicate their differences and love each other no matter what. I hope they work out! Though they never really fought pre-wedding, perhaps because both don't possess bickering personalities. If they don't internalize differences, I see a strong future.

Mal and Sal just weren't ready. Sal always seemed more into Mal than vice versa so his unwillingness to marry her was surprising. Mal was genuinely surprised too. Sal has a strong sense of self and character. Any lady is lucky to have him. Sal needs trust, whereas Mal was content with outward romantic gestures. There was a glimmer of hope when Sal proposed they both go on a date - something nice and simple, and away from the rolling cameras.

Natalie and Shayne were a shock. Apparently, they got into a horrific fight the night before the wedding that may have severed the entire relationship. Reading between the lines, Shayne might have said some hurtful (maybe even bordering into hateful) things to Natalie while intoxicated. Not an excuse though and he said enough to fizzle their romance. I was rooting for them initially, but I left that episode finding their relationship toxic. It is common for people to say hurtful things while under pressure, which can become a pandora's box when drunk, but, female-to-female, Natalie might need to run from this one.

Way to go Deepti! She said no and literally walked away from Shake while he apparently had the audacity to continue celebrating. His celebrating was a little off-putting and made me question his connection to her in the first place. In other words, he appeared relieved (insert face palm emoji). Deepti is obvi over this relationship and Shake can go back to finding his "blonde" soulmate. I loved how proud Deepti's mother was with her strong decision. Lesson learned is that physical chemistry is a must and a lot of us are stuck in our ways when it comes what we find physically attractive. And one more - be honest from the get-go!

Overall lessons

Forcing an engagement is a little odd when the show could be just as successful asking the participants to date post-pods rather than furiously and frantically meet each others' families and tying the knot (forever).

On another note, though this show has its flaws, it does make a good argument for the stance that "love is blind." Many of the participants likely would not have chosen their desired partner from the show in the real world. That is probably because we put on imaginary blinders in the real world and focus our desires on outward appearances. People are more concerned about status and making others jealous than forming a life-long marriage.

Shake and Deepti exemplify this issue. Though Shake was ultimately not attracted to Deepti, both formed a strong emotional connection that tightly bonded them before the wedding. Shake even seemed attracted to Deepti in the first reveal post-pods, though that attraction quickly fizzled. Did the excitement wear off? Regardless, it is unfortunate that looks attract many of us to potential partners more than legitimate character. Shake may end up regretting his decision.
