Not another love song..

Love don’t cost a thing.

With February 14 approaching and “love” being in the air i thought it would be more then appropriate to highlight some important facts about this infamous holiday that Americans love.

For starters i find it ironic how couples can be together for years and never even think about showing each other how appreciative they are for one another until Valentine’s Day rolls around. It’s almost like a theatrical play comes into effect nationwide around this time of year. People wait for ONE day out of an entire year, one day out of their entire relationship to show affection. Here’s where the theatrics come into effect, here’s where men and woman from across the world put on an act for social media and themselves for a pagan holiday just to prove some kind of compassion for their companion.

Just like Christmas, you go into the stores and see red everywhere, hearts filled with candy, and love music on the radio. Same old love songs playing, alluring you down the aisle making you feel you must purchase something, more money being spent. Where’s the love in that?

I refuse to participate, i don’t want to hear not another love song. Not because i am single more so because it shouldn’t take one day out of the year for people to show their love for one another. Imagine if parents waited until one time of the year to show their kids they love and appreciate them. Imagine how distorted our realities would be. It’s kind of the same thing with this holiday when you think about it. So i created a playlist to help everyone that’s feeling the same way i am get through this.... Valentine’s Day.

Why can’t we just enjoy our solitude? Do we have to be with someone to appreciate love? Or Valentine’s Day for that matter? Is love defined by others, holidays and or external treatment? Can I love myself and not get shamed for doing so? More people need to entertain the idea of being with themselves! Can you truly love someone else if you half way love yourself?

The truth is we don’t need validation or a holiday to love.. love starts within and grows outwardly the more we nurture the inner seeds. Love is patient, love is kind and most importantly love shouldn’t cost.

Like happiness, love is free.

I started my playlist off with the song NO Scrubs by TLC followed by what’s love got to do with it by Tina Turner because in all actuality does love really have anything to do with Feb 14? I decided to add Toxic by Kehlani and Mind Games by Honey Allure because nowadays in this generation love is a joke, toxicity is a plus and mind games are a must. BS by Jhene Aiko explains my previous sentence perfectly! This generation can barely spell monogamy let alone honesty. Numb by Rihanna explains my exact feelings when it comes to Valentine’s Day! Because, should you really feel any other way about the day other then N U M B... I added Superman by Eminem to the playlist because in my opinion he explains how nobody is going to save you and in life i feel we constantly need that reminder. Schoolin Life by Beyoncé explains how life is a journey and we should always appreciate and love our own. I added bitter by Fletcher because hey even though I’m talking my crap about the holiday i am a bit bitter i don’t have a boo to do anything with so i ended the playlist with Heartless by Kanye West!

It’s easy to be heartless, it’s the key to worrying less! Guard your heart, grab your earphones if you’re needing some vibes that won’t lie or cost this holiday, i suggest you check out the playlist attached, do some soul searching and love on Y O U <3
