My Most Embarrassing First Date

And what happened after

Wanna Get Away?

Lol. I have a cheesy smile on my face just thinking about the shit I've gone through. But I'm just going to describe one mortifying situation.

I was pretty young. In high school, and he was a college guy. I don't remember which college, maybe ASU. He was from Ethiopia, but raised here in Scottsdale. So he didn't have any exotic accent or anything. He wasn't very tall, and didn't have some super cool personality. But he was pretty handsome, and he liked me. I swear looking back, those were the only requirements for dating me back in the day. And the handsome part was provisional. My standards were pretty low. Which is probably why I was such a whore shortly after high school, and throughout my young twenties.

We met online. Before online dating was a thing. Because, I have always dated online. I remember him inviting me to the library first to meet (and "study"), and then we would catch a movie after. A little weird for a date, even when I think about it now. But it worked, I guess. The initial meeting went well, we didn't study (if you might have actually thought were going to), but talked the entire time. When we went to the movies, he bought tickets for some kiddy movie. This was the early evening, and the middle of the week, AND Valentine's Day. Also weird for a first date, right? No pressure or anything, huh? But when we walked inside the theater, I was surprised to find the theater was empty. It was a small one, and we sat in the back. "He knew exactly which movie to choose to get us alone", I thought. And he knew just what to do to make me feel comfortable. Although, I don't remember what that was, specifically. However, shortly after, we started making out. And I could not help but think this was the sloppiest kiss I'd ever experienced. Not that I'd even had a lot by then. But I knew enough to know that like...dude...calm down with the slobber, it's disgusting. I stopped and wiped my mouth, trying to hint to him to suck it up. And then I stopped and did it again. And when I went to do it a third or fourth time, he pulled out his cell phone and turned on the light (we didn't have smart phones and flashlights on our phones back then). He turned the light to my face, which felt cold from the air on his slobber on my face, as I continued to wipe my face and mouth. And then he turned the light to my hands, where the blood from my nosebleed had spread all over my palms and fingers. So much for slobber huh.....

Mortifying. To say the least.

Update: Everyone is always curious as to whether or not he ever spoke to me again. I lost my virginity to him a few months later. No, we didn't end up in some happy relationship, or even a long term sexual relationship. It happened a few times and we...well, he moved on. And I...eventually got over it. I wouldn't say it was heartbreak. It took me a long time to realize what love was. And I'm not even sure I really experienced it until I met my husband. Just (almost) three short years ago. No, this was...hell...I don't even think it was infatuation. I just lost my V card to this guy and expected something to come out of it afterwards. My bad for believing those coming of age movies meant my life was going to turn out exactly as I'd imagined. There are several stories for another moment. But...it's kind of like that guy disappeared off the face of the Earth. I haven't seen him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any of that. Never saw him at the club, the mall, the gas station, or anything. Hope he's keeping dry.
