More Than Words

It was a typical spring day at Stately Park, you could hear the laughter of children while they scurried around and played. The sun was beaming in the clear skies, as the wind rustled with the leaves of the tall oak trees. You could hear the faint sound of birds chirping in the distance, hearing the occasional vroom of a car passing by. A beautiful middle-aged couple sat on a vintage wooden bench immersed in conversation. They seemed to be communicating in a language of their own. No words were being uttered, but they seemed to understand one another. You could see the love they shared for each other through their glistening eyes which were filled with tears, was it from joy or sorrow? All that is certain is that they were somehow enthralled with one another, and they understood each other without making a sound. Through subtle cues, you knew they cared deeply for one another by their interactions, like the way his hands gently moved the hair away from her eyes and the soft smile that you saw on the woman’s face. It was like they had known each other forever, and time has only made their bond stronger. Suddenly, the man reached in his suit pocket and pulled out something and handed it to the woman, upon further examination you noticed it was a locket and inside was a picture of a familiar face. It was the woman, she looked much younger than she is now. Maybe it was from an earlier time, possibly high school, was it from the first day they met or a first date? All that was known was that the picture was profound and carried a special meaning to the man and his loved one, anyone could tell their love for one another was intense and the bond they shared cannot be broken. It seemed to somehow cause a shift in the atmosphere, the birds were now humming a sweet melody and the children laughing seemed to have a calming effect.

How could this be? Was their love so unique that even the world reacted? Or is it the emotions you derive from the couple that it makes you look at the world a little differently? Possibly, it really didn’t matter what caused you to feel this way, all that you knew is your outlook on life was now more positive. All thanks to a couple you never met, who somehow made the world a little brighter. Suddenly, the woman's expression changed which was now beaming with hope, her eyes were much brighter, and the crying had now stopped. Somehow this man knew how to get through to her even when she was weary. Whatever fears or trials she was facing didn’t seem to matter, all that mattered was this moment and the person who was beside her. You could see the passion he held for her as he looked deeply into her chocolate eyes as the man softly interweaves his hands with hers. It was like no one was there, just him and her in their own little world. Their problems seem like distant memories, and nothing could disturb this moment they were in.
