Kanye West’s Mental Breakdown Is Not Entertainment

It’s High Time We Stopped Talking About Him

By now it’s painfully obvious that Kanye West is in the midst of a severe mental crisis. It’s all over the news, TV, Internet, social media. Maybe the radio. I don’t know. I don’t listen to the radio.

The question is, how aware of his behaviour is Kanye (now legally known as ‘Ye’)? And where are the people who are supposed to care for him? Doesn’t he have a manager? A handler? Advisors? Assistants? Does no one ever tell him ‘no’?

If Kanye knows what he’s doing, then what we’re seeing is someone literally destroying their career piece by piece, tweet by tweet (well, not anymore, “free speech for all” pundit Elon Musk suspended his account because apparently, a president inciting a violent insurrection is okay, but a swastika is not).

He’s alienating himself from his fans, his family and his (former) business contracts.

But if Kanye is as out of control as he seems to be, he is unaware of what he’s doing and why it’s wrong.

And splashing it all over social media and all other forms of media is not helping him in any way. Instead it seems to validate, at least to him, that people are entertained by his ‘antics’.

The problem here is that his continued access to platforms willing to give him a voice is exacerbating the situation (yes. I am aware of the irony in writing about the situation and therefore giving it more attention).

Kanye West’s mental deterioration is not entertainment. It’s not entertaining. He needs help. Serious psychiatric help. He doesn’t need Alex Jones giving him a platform to spew his brand of antisemitism. He doesn’t need Politico reporting that he had dinner with Trump and Nick Fuentes, another notes antisemite. He needs the spotlight to be turned off of him.

The more attention he gets for these antics, the more he will ramp up this behaviour until something gives. He seems to think people want to hear what he’s saying. But from what I’ve seen and heard and read. No one really agrees with him (not publicly, anyway) but seem to be enjoying the ride as they watch someone literally break down mentally.

Every time a video is shared, posted, reported on, Kanye gets that rush that most people get from the likes they get on social media. The more attention these antics get, the more he’ll continue and the worse they could become.

He’s already said some concerning things should, for some reason, he actually become a viable candidate in the GOP (please tell me they aren’t that dumb!). He’s said he’d push for a Christian theocracy, embraces Nazism and even wanted to name an album after the leader of the Third Reich.

The reality is, Kanye won’t likely make the ticket for GOP nominee, but the fact that he’s even able to consider a run, especially now, is concerning.

The actual reality is, it’s time that media and social media stopped giving Kanye an outlet to continue to show his mental decline. It’s time for someone to step in and get him the help he so very obviously needs. His mental breakdown should not be our entertainment.
