Before I started writing this post, I decided to post a question on my Twitter handle — Is Flirting a Healthy Practice? Most of the people responded a “ NO “. But when I asked them about the same through personal messages, 8 out of 10, didn’t answer as NO. In fact, most of them replied with a smiley face.

Do you still think flirting is not really a healthy practice? Are you still having double thoughts before flirting with anyone? Well, if yes, this one is for you!

Flirting is often considered a sly attempt to excite another person. But indulging in this practice can actually be good for you. And it’s not I am saying this, but recent research has revealed some mind-blowing facts about flirting.

Before getting into benefits, let’s understand what flirting actually means.

Good flirting means engaging with someone you are really interested in and want to take things ahead. It can also be sometimes for amusement purposes. One can flirt with someone via text messages using emojis, or jokes. Apart from text messages, one can even flirt with someone through gestures, while they are out at a party or in a restaurant.

Long story short, flirting is simply an attractive form of communication, which might involve body language, through which one is trying to show interest in someone else.

4 Exciting benefits of flirting

Boosts confidence

Sometimes, while being in any crowd, a few people try their level best to play with your confidence and self-esteem. They can either make fun of your appearance, your body language or sometimes your career too. These remarks can often impact an individual’s self-esteem.

However, when you are flirting with someone, you are actually trying to be your level best from within. And if the other person is responding or flirting with you on the same level, you will feel valued and worthy.

Improves communication skills

Since humans can’t read minds, communication is the only way they can know what another person is thinking about them. And the best way to talk to someone, or at least initiate a conversation, is by making them laugh, making the chit-chat more interesting. Hence, whenever you will be trying to make the other person laugh, or make the conversation exciting, you are actually improving your communication skills.

Also, while flirting with someone, be a good listener. If you are not in a relationship, the energy just won’t be the same, hence you should listen to the other person carefully, and then make your next smart move (or flirt we can say).

Reduces stress

People actually enjoy casual flirtations, and this is not I am saying, but a study published in Organizational behavior and human decision processes. The study says that people in any workspace enjoy light flirts, and it thus eases stress and tension at work.

However, this flirting should not get extreme, as one can feel it as an act of sexual harassment. Additionally, one should know their boundaries before flirting with anyone, they should not be your manager or your superior, instead, they should be just their peers.

So, the next time you feel stressed at your workplace, or any of your peers is feeling so, make sure to laugh a bit out with them and try a little bit of harmless flirting.

Generates positive energy

The act of flirting can actually make you feel sexier about yourself. And this could be more rewarding when there is an extreme attraction between both parties. Both individuals will feel happy at the moment, and there will be a new kind of spark, in and around you guys.

In fact, when the energy is the same from both ends, the time spent together gets spiced up more. The subject on which you guys are flirting, like looking to get into a relationship, or just being with each other for a little period, gets more exciting.

But, Is flirting ethical?

There is nothing wrong with being a flirt, but there are some ethics you need to follow. Above we made sure to describe all the incredible benefits of flirting but do remember that even this comes with certain boundaries. If you are in love and trying to flirt with your partner, chances are your bond will get stronger. However, if you are flirting with anybody else while being in a relationship, your partner will undoubtedly count it as cheating.

To the last,

Healthy flirting brings out the positives in you and is also great for your overall well-being. It allows an individual to show interest in another person through small, kind gestures. And these gestures allow that person to decide whether they want to reciprocate or not. That being said, make sure always to choose the most gentle way to flirt, because, at the end of the day, it should be fun, and not toxic!

So, how do you flirt?
