Infidelity

"The girl didn't love you nephew." My uncle repeats for the fifth time. I sit back in the office chair and stare at the neighboring skyscrapers outside.

"But we been together for five years. How can you not love someone after being with them for that long?" I reply, swirling the Jack Daniels in the glass.

"Nephew, she used you. She used you for sex, money, and attention. Then cheated on you with someone she think is better than you. THE GIRL DIDN'T LOVE YOU. She loved your drive and intelligence. She knew you wouldn't say no to her. That is all."

I could tell my uncle was gettin frustrated with me. I shake my head. All this shit on facebook about 'niggas' and how we ain't shit. These females are no better. There's a knock on the door.

"Come in." My uncle yells. Shortly after, his assistant opens the door and peeks her head in.

"I guess fuck it then." I say, turning back towards him, downing the rest of the liquor in the glass before I leave.

"Yea. FUCK em." My uncle whispers, nodding his head towards his assistant and smirking.

"Come on in, Ms. Daniels." He sits up in his office chair motioning her in.

I chuckle and begin to head out the room. She smiles as she walks past me.

"Good evening, Mr. Davis." she shyly says in a soft tone.

"Ms. Daniels." I reply, nodding at her.

I glance back to see she added a little hip in her walk. I look at my uncle as he chuckles. I smirk and head to my office. I fall back into my office chair and sigh.

Let me introduce myself. I'm Kai Davis, 26, VP at Aspirion Technologies, thanks to my uncle. Straight out of college, he hired me and I worked my way up. My uncle and I have always been close. He was there for me in my fathers absence.

My mother, Raven Davis, passed away when I was 21 from lung cancer. After that, my uncle took me in. He taught me everything my mother didn't have a chance to. My mind has been set on my financial stability since I've graduated college. All I wanted to do was make my parents proud, but it's been a burden that I wasn't able to do that in time.

Right after high school, I started dating my ex, Megan Wilson. The girl tore me up. She took my virginity, my mind, and my heart. She was the only friend that was there for me while I was grieving. She helped my broken heart heal, but turned around and broke it herself.

Things were fine between us while I was in college. After I graduated, we moved in together. That's when things went to hell. I got hired by my uncle, paid the bills to our apartment, got her hair and nails done, and basically gave her everything.

I came home the night I got promoted with a rose bear, gifts, and dinner. I wanted to thank her for sticking by my side through the tough times. I came home to another man in my bed. I blacked out and fought him, which I deeply regret. I let her take me out of my character, but at the time, I just want to hurt somebody as much as I was hurting.

Brrriiiinnnngg—

My office phone rings, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"This is Kai." I sigh into the phone.

"Mr. Davis. You have a visitor in the lobby." The receptionist states, sounding a bit on edge.

"Who is it?"

"She's asked me to not disclose any information." She claims.

Fucking Megan.

I straighten up myself up before I begin to head down. I haven't seen her since we broke up.

I click the button for the elevator and wait for its arrival.

"Kai, what's up brotha." Jordan, one of our ITs greet me as the elevator opens.

"Good evening Mr. Miller. I assume you've finished up your work for today?"

"Yes sir. Heading home now. You leaving?"

"I have an unwanted guest to take care of downstairs. I'll be leaving shortly after I get it taken care of." I explain.

"Referring to this person as an it... I assume you're talking about Megan." He chuckles.

"Unfortunately." I sigh out.

"What she come up here for?"

"That, I am not certain of."

"Well whatever it is, don't give her the satisfaction of seeing you out of character."

"It's not my intentions to do so, Mr. Miller. I appreciate your advice. Enjoy the rest of your day." I reply, as the elevator opens.

I step out the elevator and begin walking up to Megan. My jaw clenches at the sight of her. I thought that I'd may be upset about the break up, but seeing her caused my blood to boil.

"Good evening Ms. Wilson. How can I be of service today?" I ask, forcing a unwanted smile.

"Um, why are you being formal with me?" She giggles.

Does she even remember our status? We are not on good terms. I fight the urge to show anger.

"I am in my professional workplace. Ms. Wilson." I glance at my watch. "I have a very important meeting to head to in a few minutes. May I know the reason for your arrival?" I lie. My tone lowers from irritation.

"Mmh. I would have texted you but this is something I feel should be told in person. So I've come here to officially tell you, that I'm four weeks pregnant!" She smirks, and pulls out a positive pregnancy test in a ziplock bag from her purse. One that I bought her.

I'm four weeks pregnant.

I glare at her, and my smile slowly disappears. The toxic words replay in my head.

"Ms.Miller, I ask that you please leave and we can discuss this later." I say, still in a trance.

"See, what you not going to do is-"

"Immediately. I will call security." I cut her off.

"You know what, FUCK YOU. That's why I cheated on yo weak, naive, stupid ass, cause you don't ever give a fuck!" As she starts yelling curses and threats, security begin running over to escort her out.

SMACK!

She smacks me before security could get to her, and drag her away.

I begin to say something, but the other security guard grabs my shoulder before I could react. I stare at her for a few seconds before I head back to my office.

I can feel myself losing it.

Four weeks pregnant.

I facepalm myself in frustration and begin pacing nervously.

I take off my suit leaving my shorts and T-shirt on and grab my boxing gloves. I start violently punching my bag. My therapist told me to do this to release energy, but this time it's not helping. My adrenaline keeps rising as I more quickly go at the bag.

"Mr. Davis.." I pause hearing a light voice at my door.

I'll take a look behind me to see Tamara, the receptionist.

"Miss Boyd." I look down at myself and try to steady my breathing. "I apologize for my appearance." I grab a towel from my desk and pat myself down.

This...

Is why a door was invented. I make a mental note to get a lock installed.

"No, you're definitely... fine." She pauses staring me up and down.

"I just wanted to make sure you were OK. Are you OK?" She asks, walking in, shutting the door behind her.

"Thanks for your concern, but I'm fine." I sigh out. I'm not necessarily in the mood for company. But I don't want to be rude.

"It's okay to not be. You're always so composed. It's okay to be vulnerable sometimes." She claims as she puts her hand on my arm.

Being vulnerable is what got me here in the first place. I lightly scoff at her comment. Now I really want her to go.

"If you ever need to relieve some stress, I'm here."

I always knew she had a thing for me, but I didn't know she was bold enough to try it. Especially in the workplace.

Unfortunately, not every man is easily persuaded by pussy.

"KAI." Tamara jumps and stands to herself as my uncle enters the office. Saved by the bell.

"Miss Boyd, please allow me to speak with Mr. Shumaker."

"Of course. Have a good rest of your day, Mr. Davis." She hurries out, clearly embarrassed.

My uncle closes the door behind him.

"You need a lock. I'll get one installed for you tomorrow." He points out.

"I was thinking the same thing. Apparently, Tamara forgot how to knock." We both laugh.

After our laughter fell a powerful silence.

"Are you alright son?"

Am I alright?

The burden of not making my mom proud weighs heavily on my chest. And now to think I'm stuck with someone she clearly wouldn't approve of. I can't help but think that she's frowning down on me.

The thought of it as well as being having a baby with someone I don't intend to marry, causes an unexpected breakdown. I never wanted my kid to have to grown up like me with split parents.

"I don't know what to do." I force out through my tears and uneven breathing.

Yes, men cry too.

My uncle pulls me into an tight embrace.

"Only thing you can do is be there for that baby if she decides to keep it. You got the money. You don't have to be with her to be a father. Pick yourself up before I knock yo ass out."

I bust out laughing through my tears.

"Get off me." I spit back pushing him away and straightening myself up.

"As much as I don't want a child right now, she not gonna kill mine. I can't allow that."

"Just talk it out and see what happens. Go home and relax. Let me know if you need anything."

I nod, and dap him up before he exits my office. I pack my stuff up for the day and head home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a well needed hot shower and dinner, I settle down on my couch, contemplating whether I should call Megan or not.
What in the hell did I get myself into.
I click her name and the phone instantly starts ringing. I begin pacing the living room. Something in my gut tells me that this isn't going to go well.
"What." She answers, clearly agitated.
"I didn't mean to dismiss you Megan. It was a topic a didn't want to discu—"
"I'm aborting the baby."
"What? Megan, come on now. I understand we're not on good terms, but don't do that."
"I'm sorry, but why would I want a baby with someone I'm not with?"
"Who's fault is that? I wasn't the one laid up in bed with someone else. That was YOU."
"Well them you should've given me more attention. You too caught up in your stupid ass job-"
"Stupid job? This job was providing a roof over our head. My job kept your hair and nails done, my job put food on the table. My job kept your closet full. I don't get it Megan. I mean if you want to be with a broke ass nigga then by all means, go ahead. But you not gonna fucking kill my child, that's IT."
BEEP BEEP BEEP
She hung up. I fall back on my couch and groan.
"What in THE FUCK did I get myself into." I speak to myself.
DING
I look at my phone, noticing a text from Megan.
Megan: I'll keep the baby if you pay me.
Kai: How much?
Megan: $400 weekly.
"Oh, Give me a fucking break." I spat out, calling her again. There's no way I can text right now with my hands shaking. I hear her pick up.
"You really making me pay to keep a child we both created? You'd kill your child over some damn money? What in the fuck is wrong with you?!"
"You is what's wrong with me."
"And what in the hell did I do to you Megan? I'm really confused about how you're acting like this is my fault! Are you acting like this because you're guilty? Let me know so I can understand how someone just switches the fuck up like this!" I try to contain the anger in my voice.
"I did this because I wanted to. I don't regret my actions Kai. Our relationship was getting dull and I lost feelings so I got with someone I have feelings for. Simple. I don't have time to argue with you, so you have a week to decide whether you want to keep the baby or not. If I don't have the money by Tuesday, I'm scheduling that appointment."
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I let out a frustrated chuckle and call my uncle.
"Megan just told me our relationship got dull and she got feelings for someone else."
"That quick, huh?" My uncle chuckles. "I stand corrected."
"Unc, she's telling me to send her $400 a week to keep the baby."
"Huh? Are you going to follow through?"
"I mean, yea, what more can I do?"
"But what if she gets the abortion anyway?"
I pause.
"How long before they deny abortion?"
"Hell, I don't know. Look it up... but nephew... It takes time to develop feelings for some.. So she had to be fucking with dude for awhile..."
I wrinkle my brows, trying to calculate the last time we had sex.
"Is the baby even yours, nephew?"
