India strikes Pakistan over killing of Kashmir tourists in escalation in regional tensions

May 7, 2025 - New Delhi/Islamabad

A major escalation of hostites between two nuclear armed states, India has coordinated the Indian series "Operation Sindoor" of Air Strike, coordinated beyond the line of control, over the line of control, has been carried out in retaliation for a brutal terrorist attack. The attack killed 26 Indian tourists last month in the popular city of Pahangam.

The Pahangam massacre on April 22 flooded the uniforms of the Indian military, a group of tourists who visited the picturesque Baisalang Meadows of Jammu and Kashmir. Armed people opened the fire without warning, killing 26 civilians, including women and children, and wounding 17 more. The massacre sparked widespread rage across India, and created a national debate about cross-border terrorism.

The

Extremist group, the Resistance Front (TRF), was assumed and held responsible for it being the front of the Lashkar e Tayba (let). The Indian Secret Service pursued an attack on cross-border training camps, citing intercepted communications and regaining weapons with satellite images of Pakistan's markings and extremist movements.

"The attack was coordinated with support from the entire border," Home Minister Amit Shah said. "This was not a random act of violence. It was a calculated terrorist act with government debt."

India's military response: Sindore

Operation India responded with airstrikes on May 7, aiming to see what Lashkar et Taiba and Jaish et Mohammed's terrorist infrastructure and logistics hubs were in Pakistan and Admashmir, Pakistan. According to the Ministry of Defense of India, nine locations have been created, including training camps, weapons and command centers.

"The strike was done accurately and was intended to eliminate terrorist networks. Careful planning and intelligent goals prevented citizen losses," Defence Minister Rajnassin said. A video issued by the Indian Air Force showed Mirage and Sukhoi aircraft using laser-controlled bombs in the hill connection.

India described the operation as "a measured strike against a terrorist storm." This is not an act of war that repeatedly took the right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charta.

Pakistan's response and escalation risk. The Pakistani government condemned the strike, calling it an The Pakistani military claimed that five Indian jets had broken and had vowed to go back and forth "at once and where our choice was." Islamabad officials reported civilian casualties, including children, but these claims were not independently checked.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif summoned an emergency meeting of the National Security Council, explaining, "Pakistan will protect every inch of his floor. We are not looking for war, but we are not ready for submission."

Military missions along the

LOC have been strengthened on both sides. The Pakistan Jets ran a patrol flight and reported artillery exchanges were held in the Kupuwara and Poonch divisions until Tuesday evening.

History of Tensions: India and Pakistan have fought three wars since their division in 19 7, two of which are concentrated in the Kashmir region. The current situation is reminiscent of Pulwamabarakot

suggests that the high civilian tribute of the attack on April 22nd, the continued increase in Pakistan's ongoing instability could make the current patient situation more unstable. "The public mood is running, and both governments are under pressure to take determined action. This is a dangerous combination.

International Reactions and Diplomatic Consequences:

World leaders have expressed concern about the risk of wider conflict. The US, UK and the European Union have condemned the murder of Pahargam, but have called for resistance to military answers.

India and Pakistan have since excluded high-rank diplomats from their opponents' capitals. Bilateral conversations, which have been suspended since 2021, appear to have resumed in a short period of time. India has also halted trade on limited crosses in Kashmir and closed its cultural exchange programme.

Impact at home in India. In India, the strike has increased the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi before next year's general election. The general BJP framed the operation as evidence of proof that it would counter the threat of Indian terrorists.

"Strong leadership means strong measures," said BJP spokesman Sambit Patra. "When his people were attacked, India remains silent."

Opposition Congressional parties were cautiously supporting the strike, but called for transparency on their goals and long-term strategies. Civil society groups are concerned about the human costs of military measures and have asked the government to avoid escalation.

In Pakistan, the situation is more complicated. The country is facing a serious economic crisis with inflation of nearly 30%, and the government is fighting to implement reforms as part of the IMF rescue package. Public responses are mixed - nationalists are in high spirits, but fear that further conflict with India could deepen national instability.

Forward

Despite mild international calls, tensions remain high. Sporadic fires have already been reported in several sectors along the LOC, and both countries have warned their strength.

Security experts warn that if both sides are calculated incorrectly, the situation could be out of control. "Single incidents - aging planes, civilian casualties - can cause much greater conflict," said Shuja Nawaz, South Asian analyst at the Atlantic Council.

The region is holding its breath for the time being as diplomacy and deterrence clash on a volatile frontier. With both sides standing firm, the world watches anxiously, hoping reason prevails over retaliation.
