I Wish Older People Would Stop Saying This.

A Phrase I Cannot Stand.

Does anyone notice that older generations, especially Boomers, have a saying for something. Its as if these people live as if real life were a television show. In a sense, every other sentence they speak has to be some catchphrase or motto. While most of what older folks say may be funny, at times their words can be infuriating.

In fact, there is one phrase I continuously hear which really infuriates me the most.

What could be the one phrase older people say which grinds my gears? Now, we all know older people; mainly the Boomers, have a saying or phrase for just about anything. After all once someone reaches a certain age, one has practically seen it all. Just what is it that has irked my ire?

Well here it is:

"Tired? You're too young to be tired."

I am sick of hearing this phrased used by older people. It is very infuriating when someone says this aggravating expression. The number of times people have said anyone was too young to be tired is limitless. I've had it with older folks saying someone is "too young to be tired". Hell, I've had people say this to me! In open honesty, I am so fed up with this phrase, the next time I hear someone say a youth is too young to be tired, I will set them straight.

First of all, a person's age does not have anything to with fatigue. Whether it is emotional or physical, every0ne becomes tired. From sports to work to spending all day running errands, fatigue effects us all. Not only is fatigue caused by labor, but illness or a lack of sleep. Not even youths are immune to tiredness. It is something that everyone succumbs to every so often. Would you all please stop assuming that because someone is young, they have unlimited energy? It is a misconception that needs to end.

Secondly, tiredness does not always relate to fatigue. When one says they are tired, it could also mean they are frustrated. What could frustrate young people? Hmm, let us see:

1. Parents whom brush off their problems as nothing. (Examples include "Get over it.", "It is nothing to cry about.", "It's not the end of the world.")

2. The youth may have problems with friends, classmates, or teen related issues. (Dating, popularity, or trends.)

3. Perhaps the children or teens feel ignored. Then again, their parents constant nagging may affect them as well.

4. A lack of fulfillment in life.

5. Friendships coming to an end or friends becoming distant.

6. The inability to do something and their parents are not helping.

7. Older generations always needing to be "always right".

8. Being laughed at for saying something serious or getting upset.

Now this does not always relate to children and teens. People in their early 20s and 30s may also feel this way. In this age of great uncertainty and trends instantly coming and going, the younger generations feel more tired than ever before. The pressure to keep up with the demands of what is new and trendy is constant. It is a never ending ordeal.

Yet, older generations continue to assume that youth equates to infinite energy. That is a sad misconception. No matter one's age, fatigue and frustration are part of every day life. There is no avoiding this ordeal. Everyone becomes tired in one way or another. Nobody has infinite energy because of their youth. Also, tiredness is another form of frustration.

In closing, I hope older generations become more understanding of what it means to be tired. So please stop assuming youth means endless energy or a lack of frustration. Simply saying one is too young to be tired is only a sign of ignorance. Enough with it!
