I Was Ready for Forever…

You Were Just Passing Time”

I didn’t realize we were living in two completely different stories.

In mine, everything meant something.

Every late-night conversation, every “good morning” text, every plan we made for the future—I held onto them like they were promises.

But in yours… they were just moments. Temporary. Disposable.

And somehow, I didn’t see it.

⸻

I remember the night I first thought, this is it.

We were sitting together, not doing anything special. Just talking, laughing at things that didn’t even make sense. And in that ordinary moment, I felt something rare—peace.

The kind of peace that makes you believe you’ve finally found your person.

You looked at me like I mattered. Like I was different.

And I believed you.

God, I believed you.

⸻

I started building a future around you without even realizing it.

Not in a desperate way… just quietly.

I imagined random things—like grocery shopping together, arguing over what movie to watch, sending you memes during work hours, growing old in the most boring, beautiful way.

You became part of my everyday thoughts.

Not because I had to think about you—but because I wanted to.

Because you felt like home.

⸻

But now I wonder…

Did you ever see me that way?

Or was I just someone who filled your time when you were bored?

Someone who made your days a little less lonely… until something better came along?

⸻

There were signs.

I just ignored them.

Like how you never really talked about the future unless I brought it up.

How your words were always warm, but your actions… inconsistent.

You’d disappear sometimes—not completely, but just enough to make me question things.

And every time I felt that doubt creeping in, I’d silence it.

I’d tell myself, they’re just busy.

They care. I know they do.

Because accepting the truth would’ve hurt more than the confusion.

⸻

The truth is… I was ready.

Ready for commitment.

Ready for something real.

Ready to choose you every single day—even on the hard ones.

But you?

You were just passing through.

⸻

I don’t think you ever meant to hurt me.

That’s the hardest part.

You weren’t cruel.

You weren’t cold.

You just weren’t serious.

And there’s a difference.

⸻

You gave me just enough to hold on…

but never enough to feel secure.

And I stayed.

Not because I didn’t see the cracks—but because I thought, if I loved you a little harder, a little better… maybe you’d stay too.

Maybe you’d realize what we could be.

Maybe I’d become something permanent in a life where I was only ever temporary.

⸻

But love doesn’t work like that.

You can’t convince someone to choose you.

No matter how patient you are.

No matter how much of yourself you give away.

⸻

The day it ended wasn’t dramatic.

No shouting.

No big goodbye.

Just a quiet realization…

That I had been holding onto something that was never truly mine.

⸻

And suddenly, everything made sense.

All the mixed signals.

All the unanswered questions.

All the moments I felt like I was asking for too much… when I was really just asking the wrong person.

⸻

I was ready for forever.

You were just passing time.

⸻

And maybe that’s not entirely your fault.

Not everyone we meet is meant to stay.

Not everyone we love is meant to love us the same way.

Some people come into our lives just to teach us what we deserve—and what we should never settle for again.

⸻

It still hurts, though.

Missing you isn’t the hardest part.

Accepting that you never saw me the way I saw you…

that’s what stays.

⸻

But if I’ve learned anything, it’s this:

I’d rather be alone and ready for something real…

than be with someone who only sees me as something temporary.

⸻

Because one day, someone will meet me with the same certainty I had for you.

And when that happens…

I won’t have to question it.

I won’t have to chase it.

I won’t have to shrink myself to keep it.

⸻

This time, it will be mutual.

This time, it will be real.
