How often do we shed the so-called crocodile tears when a simple action could have solved our problems?

For those who love soccer, which we call football here in the United Kingdom. Lionel Messi is a top league thirty-four-year-old Argentina footballer, worth about £309m, from playing what he knows best, endorsements and related adverts. According to the recent news on him, his salary is a $75m per annum guarantee by FC Barcelona, but he can earn up to $165 with incentives.

This is Forbe’s profile on Lionel Messi:

Messi has claimed FIFA’s player of the year award and the European Golden Shoe for top scorer on the continent six times, a record for each award.

A contract leak in January 2021 showed Messi was making much more at FC Barcelona than previously thought; the deal was set to expire in June 2021.

The leaked contract showed Messi was able to earn up to $165 million annually in salary and incentives, and an unmatched figure in team sports.

He launched his own clothing line and opened his first retail outlet, the Messi Store, in 2019 in Barcelona. He also has a lifelong deal with Adidas.

The World Health Organization tapped Messi in March 2020 to help lead a worldwide campaign aimed at stopping the spread of Covid-19.

Now, FC Barcelona can no longer afford to keep Lionel Messi, and they are going to have to let him go, although they know that he is the hen that lays the golden egg for the club. They love him and want him to stay.

This is a big transfer in the Football Industry. Paris-St-Germain (PSG) has signed a deal with Messi. Lionel Messi says, he wants to stay, so he was seen crying during the transfer saga.

Oh Please, Spare Me The Tears, Lionel

I laughed out loud when I saw this, how much tears is there to shed on what a simple action could have solved all the drama of tears flowing. Lionel, you love football, joined an outstanding club for more than twenty years, that culminated in you becoming extremely wealthy. Under FC Barcelona, you become a football legend. You only have a couple of years, but unfortunately, FC Barcelona cannot afford your huge salary.

In my own little corner, I know straight away the solution to that crocodile tears. Do you want to know, Lionel? It is very easy, in fact, it is as simple as ABC.

All you have to do is to accept lower pay, a token or nominal pay to conclude the two years remaining, on a club that made you, which you don’t want to leave, and which does not also want you to go.

The Secret To Happiness Is Giving Back

How come most of us don't want to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for us in the past? Giving and helping others is a pathway to personal growth and happiness. How much does one actually need for sustenance that we have to continue to hoard and accumulate more and more?

We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give — Winston Churchill

Science has even confirmed that giving helps the brain, and balances us emotionally, which adds to our happiness. Here is an already wealthy individual that is finding it difficult to negotiate less than he is worth. He can use the two years to mentor, share expertise, and award scholarships to deserving students. And he would make many more ‘’Lionel Messi’’, who probably would remember his giving, and will want to do the same, and so the chain will link again.

So my dear Lionel Messi, spare me that tear, please! If you are not reaching out in this way, then you are not building a legacy.

The Takeaways

If we are not careful, we can look at giving as having less, a depletion in our wealth of resources, and or being taken advantage of.

Life is ‘’give and take’’. We sow the seeds after tasting their fruits, and the trees we plant also give us oxygen. That is the work of Nature

Giving back is like kindness. It allows others to see the goodness in humanity through you.
