How I Felt Singing With Simi About Collecting Her from Her Husband, Adekunle Gold - Falz

Falz opens up about "Borrow Me Your Baby"

By Jide OkonjoPublished 9 days ago 3 min read

Nigerian singers Simi and Adekunle Gold have an undeniable musical chemistry that has been present for about a decade now and was most prominent on their joint EP together titled "Chemistry". That body of work spanned a number of top hits including "Soldier", "Foreign", "Chemistry", and more. The two really compliment each other so well musically, and now on Simi's new song "Borrow Me Your Baby", they are linking up again.

The song tells a funny story of Falz's character in the song trying to borrow Simi's character from her husband, aptly titled Mr. Ade, if only for some time. Falz's lyrics in the song read in part:

"FALZ'S RAP: Hello, hello, brother Ade. It's not that I wan chop, I'm just feeling peckish, just a little fetish. I no disrespect pls, I go use my senses. We go run am well on the low, me sef I know. No be wetin person dey talk for megaphone. No be fight, I just wan borrow your partner. Just a night, if we can reopen that chapter. Wo leave talk, you no see the chemistry. She's my first love, mo de miss e terribly."

Now, speaking on making the song with Simi, Falz is speaking about it. Here's what he said.

Speaking about making "Borrow Me Your Baby" with Simi, Falz said:

FALZ: Super excited to be creating music with Simi again. The magic we make when we come together is crazy. I feel like everyone has lowkey been craving this link-up. Clearly the best duo that exists aside from rice and stew.

"Borrow Me Your Baby" is a Simi song featuring me, and what we wanted to do was invoke the spirit of the "Chemistry" project. Just give you something kinda nostalgic but still timeless in the essence of it. That Simi and Falz link and formula. We wanted to create something formulaic but also something that we needed to hear after so long.

The general public always kind of feed into the narrative that they want to see. So, they wanted us to be in love and we said "okay, oya now, we're in love." [laughs].
