It has been a very sad time for a lot of our veteran Nollywood actors. Too frequently these days, we see major Nollywood stars from our childhood coming online to seek funding from the general public. In recent times, we have seen celebrities like Amaechi Monuagor, Mr Ibu, and more come out to seek help from well-meaning Nigerians online.

Now, veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor is speaking on this matter, and talking about why these actors, her colleagues, are having to resort to begging online for help. Patience Ozokwor gave her thoughts while granting an interview which was posted on Tiktok by KWS Nigeria. Here's what Patience Ozokwor had to say.

Speaking about why veteran actors, her colleagues, are coming online to beg for funds, Patience Ozokwor said:

PATIENCE OZOKWOR: Some of us are paid well but before this sickness gets to you, nobody helps you because everybody feels you’ve a lot of money. And you’re managing it with your family. Also nobody pays you anymore when you’re on that sick bed. Because it’s when you’re healthy that you can be shooting movies and getting money. The illness has kept you out for a long time and the money you saved has been exhausted.

And you know, because of the nature of our job, we are heavy-spenders. The clothes you wear matters to the world. We call it packaging. The way you package yourself. The worst is that you can’t even repeat your expensive clothes. These are the things that make us spend a lot of money. And then people pounce on you, they feel you’ve a lot of money because they see your face everywhere. I know how many people have come to this house today to ask for help.

It is truly disheartening to see what is happening with a lot of these our childhood actors and celebrities. The celebrity lifestyle is truly demanding as Patience Ozokwor said, and we all sometimes in fact assume that celebrities are wealthy when that may not even be the case. Hmm. I wish everybody going through sickness recovery and everybody going through a hard time quick solutions.

In my opinion; the term 'celebrity' refers to someone who is popular and well-known for what they do. Celebrity status does not always mean they have millions. Many celebrities don't earn millions at all, or even half way near it. If they need help with funds, they shouldn't be shamed for asking for help.
